Carlson picked up some of his usual, conspiracy-theory-tinged topics and sympathies to the Russian government in the video, calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “sweaty and rat-like” and suggesting without evidence that Ukraine was responsible for the destruction of a major dam on its territory. He also accused mainstream media outlets of suppressing a claim from a former military officer that the U.S. government has secret knowledge of alien spacecraft.
What an absolute shit-stain of a human being and the saddest part is that he still got over 16M views already.
calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “sweaty and rat-like”
Huh, someone here on lemmy who claims to be a leftist was saying exactly the same thing, down to the same insults of zelenky’s appearance. I wonder if some of the tankies on here are straight up just republicans larping as “leftists”?
it’s long been assumed twitter just kind of makes its metrics up, especially now that “views” are a thing you can “see” on regular tweets, so tough to say. what can be said: it did unambiguously reach a lot of people, but i doubt it was anywhere near 16m unique people
Right, exactly. And that got me thinking: what counts as a view?
Do you have to click play and watch it or does it count as a view if it shows up in your feed and you scroll past it? I’m leaning toward the latter, but I don’t have any knowledge of how Twitter’s metrics work (if there is even any logic to them, that is).
I definitely agree that it wasn’t anywhere near 16m unique people, so I do feel a little better about our species. lol

autoplay is another factor, since i know some twitter videos absolutely do that. they also repeat.

another thing to feel good about: tucker is a known quantity, so i doubt he’s reaching a lot of new people (and especially not on Twitter, where people are already likely to be quite set in ideology)
I doubt it. There’s just a lot of people out there. What I would like to believe however is that people were just curious and won’t stick around for more.
@spoonful@hedge I agree with many of his claims but I was surprised to see #TuckerCarlson claim that #Zelensky was a warmonger who destroyed the #Nordstream pipeline. I thought the general line of thinking outside of the #MSM was that it was the #USA who blew up the #Nordstream pipeline and that the reason that aide to #Ukraine has been unaccounted for is because #Zelensky is funneling the money to seedy folks who might be mob bosses. There’s no basis to the claim that #Zelensky is a mere warmonger.
Where are you getting the USA destroying the Nordstream pipeline evidence? AFAIK that shitty blog post has been debunked a thousand times over and if anything all current evidence leads to Russia doing it.
#Nordstream2 is an oil pipeline between #Germany and #Russia; Occam’s Razor would point to either the #USA or #Ukraine being the culprits here, but more money on the #USA of course since it is something that we promised to do.
@realcaseyrollins@spoonful
Blowing the pipeline was unnecessary. The US and Germany could turn it off where it came out of the water. This was Russia’s doing because only they have demonstrated zero regard for environmental damage from their actions.
> This was Russia’s doing because only they have demonstrated zero regard for environmental damage from their actions.
LOL! There’s not even a connection between the two. That’s like blaming #China for wildfires in #Canada because they’ve demonstrated that they don’t care about pollution.
Is there any actual evidence linking #Russia to destroying what is, may I remind you, their own oil pipeline?
I feel like we’re getting a bit too involved here. With so little evidence either way it’s hard to make any reasonable conclusion.
Also note that you should not apply reason to anything Russia does. Much of their strategy is basically the “chaos is a ladder” meme from game of thrones.
@spoonful Why are you afraid to say that the person who blew up #Russia’s pipeline just might happen to be the country that, let’s all remember, *is at war with them at the moment*
“Japan got hit with a nuke? Well, let’s not make hasty judgements. Maybe the Japanese did it!”

I wonder what ethnicity uses to be stereotyped in those terms and how they relate to Zelensky… 🤔
As for the self described leftist, if you look closely at a tankie and you’ll always find a fascist.
I’ve been saying that. Scratch a tankie and a fascist bleeds.
@cavemeat @spoonful more like kremlin troll.
For the sake of my faith in humanity, is there any chance Musk might have had his thumb on the scale there?
Yes, a large chance.
1 - Hiding behind an “algorithm” allows social media sites to implement “heating”. They do this to court brands and demographics. https://www.forbes.com/sites/emilybaker-white/2023/01/20/tiktoks-secret-heating-button-can-make-anyone-go-viral/
2 - Musk is sucking up to the right wing crowd, including radical conspirationists. https://www.politico.com/news/2022/12/02/musk-gop-twitter-moves-00071758
Taken together, it makes psycopathic sense for him to “heat” conspiracy bullshit on Twitter to make them feel Twitter is an arena they can succeed on.

@spoonful I didn’t even know there was a blog post about it.
I do know that #JoeBiden promised to get rid of the pipeline if #Russia invaded #Ukraine though.

I’m not afraid there’s just literally zero convincing data either way.
@realcaseyrollins
Just a small correction: It’s a gas pipeline, no oil there.
