Just trying to figure out this whole Lemmy/Jerboa thing. Seems OK so far. Signing in and searching maybe not so intuitive…
I’m waaaay out in outer SE. Any further and I’d be in Gresham. Bought a house in October of '21, been doing homeowner things like a new roof, awning, solar panels.
Next is an upgraded electrical panel… maybe a hot tub…

Not in Portland proper, but part of the Portland metro if that counts? I’m also trying to figure out Lemmy/Jerboa, overall I like it though having less users and content to lurk through takes some getting used to. Re: Portland - I sure can’t wait for this surge of pollen to finish up 😵💫
I’d say anywhere close enough to where you can say “Portland” to some out-of-stater because there’s no WAY they know where Hillsdale or Gladstone is would count. :)
Hello! I hope you’re doing well. Yeah, the fediverse is a little less polished than most social media 'sites, but I’ve been having a good time here for the most part. :)
Yeah, like I literally in the last 10 seconds figured out how to mark all my replies as “read” in Jerboa. Apparently “reading them” doesn’t count. LOL.
It’s the double checkmark icon in the upper right hand corner!
@jordanlund hello! I’m replying from my Mastodon client where I subscribe to this Portland lemmy community. It shows up much like a twitter post in my feed. I love how interconnected the fediverse can be!
Trying to figure all this federated stuff too.
Hows the solar panels and electrical going? My house has aluminum wiring and it always stresses me out when I think about it too much. I should consider getting some solar panels at some point.
So it was a NIGHTMARE getting it up and running. I started the project in April of 2022 and the panels weren’t actually installed until October.
Then it failed the building inspection THREE TIMES.
They were finally turned on in March of 2023, 11 months after signing the contract. There are 3 panels facing West, 3 panels facing South, and 5 panels facing East. So far, my electric bill, even running AC, has been $13 a month… and that’s just the PGE fees and taxes and such.
On average we’re using around 500w at any given moment and producing 2,500w in solar power. 2,000w goes back to the grid and we get credited for that.
Damn, sounds like a pain. Sounds like it was worth it though.
In the end, I’m glad I did it, I just picked a shitty contractor. :)
Welocme!
Well, hello there. I too am learning how to spend massive amounts of money without giving myself an ulcer. Also bought in fall of 21. We have had the floors refinished and all of the plumbing and sewer replaced. Next is either the kitchen or dealing with the falling down garage.
So far I am pretty happy with this Lemmy situation. I hope this Portland… what is it called? SubLemmy? Whatever, I hope traffic picks up so I can find out what that boom was and see the fucken cones.
