I’d like to take advantage of the fact that we do not have that one extremely rude dude from Reddit freaking out about Cryoutilities to mention something:

As rude and obnoxious as he were, we should actually stop recommending this tool to users. It doesn’t bring any benefits, it does add a lot of extra storage pressure on the 64 eMMC units, and it does cause issues with random GPU crashes on a growing list of games.

I hope we don’t acquire them here too. I think CryoUtils is amazing. CryoByte33’s videos on YouTube are awesome for computer science, he goes into real depth on why the changes work.

Maybe I’m a bit too optimistic, but I do believe we will see less rude behavior on Lemmy, the community here seems united by the fact we do not have large numbers, we are not centralized, and we want to see this grow.

I think that your first point contradicts your final point.

          With growth comes assholes.
Reddit went through the same transition over time.

I felt I was missing out on Cryo a bit because it seemed to have been a slight significant upgrade, and hoping that if so, it’d just get implemented (or whatever it does) by Valve.

Is there a detailed fps/memory comparison that points out the disadvantages?

I posted for CryoUtilities 2.0 from Cryobyte33 on YouTube for that. In the video he goes over the benefits of the tool and has bench marks where he uses specific game performance using and not using the tool. I hope this helps! Cryobyte33 has great videos and goes very in depth–even breaking it down Barney style.

From a brief look on the misinformation section and FAQ, it doesn’t mention those GPU crashes @kadu mentioned, which is what I wanted (unless it’s deeper the video, but the FAQ has a question if it harms the Deck, unless there’s just no irreversible damage). Though since the burden of proof is on him, if I don’t find other complaints the next time I decide to install anything, I’ll try it.

I think @[email protected] was just trying to point out we don’t have users that would add comments like that here on lemmy as we would on Reddit. But I will leave that up to @[email protected] to reply to.

Ah… i didn’t actually see those comments, so I thought he was being serious.

Edit: And I still think that, the second half really doesn’t sound like imitating or making fun of the asshole, but actually saying he had a point.

Awesome! I’ll add it to the list. For those less familiar with Linux and GitHub do you have a walkthrough install and preview?

I see it is in early stages, should I recommend that this as a test only?

Yes, it’s in a very usable state, but I’d consider it alpha software at the moment. Users can, however, switch between Steam’s gamepad UI, the desktop, and OpenGamepadUI any time.
