I’m saying gatekeeping is good, not that being pedantic and anal is the same thing. Keep fake fans out of your hobbies before they ruin it for the real ones.

Somebody who actively hates the property and wants to destroy it from the inside. Say no to trojan horses.

That’s why I mentioned the Witcher.

That…happens a lot? People infiltrating forums and things to try and take down a show or a movie? Are these people in the room with us right now?

no, what they mean is how people writing the netflix series probably said they “liked” the Witcher but then proved otherwise with their work. That was one of the rare instances where gatekeeping would’ve been somewhat useful

You can not gatekeep against lies. If you can’t tell beforehand what they are going to do, which no one could here, then you can’t keep them out, so it had no use here either.

If by fake fans you mean trolls and others who enjoy pushing anger and outrage, I’m with you.

But if fake fans means people who hasn’t read the books and are okay with the changes to the show, then nah, I will not accept gatekeeping them. People are allowed to have different opinions. And us fans have a tendency to be blind to what works on screen because we each have favorite parts of the book we dont want to be cut away. We need the show-only fans.
