I did that this morning because it was a frost, starting it and letting it run with the heater on means the windscreen will start to defrost while you’re getting ready. It also means the car is warm when you get in it.
If you live right next to a high speed road, starting the vehicle and immediately giving it full beans to merge into high speed traffic isn’t ideal, otherwise it doesn’t really make much difference.
