The issue here is that you’re adding connotations to the term that aren’t there. Being vegan just simply means not consuming animal products. There’s no ideology attached to it. It’s not something that’s inherently political. People can be, and many are, vegan for health, religious, or personal reasons. You can’t claim your personal views on being vegan are the only ones. You don’t have exclusive ownership of the term. I personally don’t care how you feel about veganism, my point is that veganism is a lot more broad and apolitical than people like you, who tend to have myopic views, claim it to be.
The concept has been around for thousands of years and has been independently thought of, practiced, and advocated for by a diverse array of people spanning time, geography, culture, and philosophy.
Take Abdula Al Ma’arri from ancient Arabia. He was a prominent athiest and critic of islam. He was also a practicing vegan who thought that animal consumption is injustice because it’s stealing from nature, and thus advocated for it. Or take Johann Conrad Beissel, who was a Christian leader from Germany in the early 1700s. He was vegan for religious reasons and advocated others to follow suit. Or Theophrastus from ancient Greece who thought that animal consumption was unjust because animals could reason. Or the modern religions of Buddahism and Brahmanism (both of which come out of India) who place an emphasis on veganism because they believe that all life is sacred.
I’m not sure which smooth brain youtuber you’ve been watching, but veganism is not a new concept and it wasn’t invented by any one person or group.
none of those are vegan cultures. none of those are vegan philosophies. they all were permissive of wool, furs, and leather. even buddhism isn’t vegan: it’s permissive of eating meat as alms, and wearing leather.
There’s no irony here. My whole point is that veganism is broader than your myopic views, not that my personal views om veganism are the only right ones.
Militant vegans give veganism a bad rep but there are a lot of people who are vegan for health reasons

do you know where the term came from? like… the person who coined it?

saying something doesn’t make it true.

calling me a “smooth brain” doesn’t change whether you know what veganism is, or whether any vegan culture has ever existed (it hasn’t).

i can’t wait for you to learn about the origin of the term.
