Bijou Phillips, the wife of Danny Masterson, has filed for divorce following the “That '70s Show” actor’s sentencing of 30 years to life after he was convicted of raping two women, Phillips’ lawyer confirmed to CBS News.

“Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband at this unfortunate time,” attorney Peter Lauzon said in a statement. “Her priority remains with her daughter. This period has been unimaginably hard on the marriage and the family.”

Phillips, also an actor, is known for her roles in movies like “Almost Famous” and “Bully.” She and Masterson married in 2011 and they have one daughter. The two appeared together in several films, including “The Bridge to Nowhere” and “Wake.”

Bingo. Expensive civil suits coming up that he’ll most likely lose since the bar for guilt in civil cases is lower than criminal. Gotta shed half his net worth before that happens so he can claim he can’t pay his victims whatever sum the jury awards

NOW she wants a divorce? So she’s been cool with it, but the conviction was just too much to continue to bear.

She assumed that he was innocent until he was proven guilty. Crazy concept, right? I mean, not really, but sometimes it seems that it’s some arcane knowledge or something and not a core principle of the country.

About what is going through her mind? Sure. I don’t know the lady, nor does anyone else in this thread. Just like how nobody knows anything about the case. Frankly, his wife’s motivation has nothing to do with my point.

That is a reasonable bar for a judicial system, but not for relationships.

Would you let your sister date OJ?

          I wouldn’t.

Yeah…… the timing seems suspect at best… seems like she stuck around to help maintain the best image during the trial but now that he’s busted she’s out.

Assuming that she didn’t know about his behavior (and didn’t want to believe the rumors and accusations), she wouldn’t want to divorce him until the accusations became too big/real/loud to ignore. Yeah, it’s shitty to avoid the truth for decades, but when it’s your spouse, parent or kid, I can see how it would be really hard to face reality.

And once she couldn’t ignore it anymore, he was probably close to getting indicted or having a trial. At that point, I could see holding off on a divorce until the conclusion, just to give the father of your child the best chance at not sitting in jail for the rest of their life. Filing for divorce at the wrong time makes the accused look more guilty and less redeemable.

I read in another article she is also requesting spousal support. How the he’ll can that happen when he is in prison or does that come from taxpayer money?

You don’t lose all your money in jail. You can still conduct banking etc. His lawyers can write a check until he runs out.

Wouldn’t he still get residuals from any work he’s done? She’d probably want a chunk of that too…
