@dandroid OMG, is it hockey season already?!?
Well, it’s still the preseason. But I wanted to use this time to practice with the bot and gather info on improvements that could be made. I have already identified (and fixed) quite a few! More will be coming before the regular season starts.
Thanks for your work!
Hopefully the community grows this season
Thanks so much. It’s been great to be able to follow the box scores here.
I’m going to make a post about this, but I would like to ask directly to make sure I get the opinion of people actually using this.
How do you feel about the entire community just being GDTs now? Does it feel like a bit much? There has been like two posts that are not GDTs in the past 3 days, and like 20 GDT posts.
I think it’s a bit inevitable with the lack of content in the community. I’m going to try to start posting more content to help.
Not sure what a better way is. I’m okay with it though.
It does feel a bit much to me. What about a post per day rather than a post per game? I’m not sure what that would look like, but I’m thinking that combining the posts would also combine the comments and help the community look a little more active on that side of things too
I really appreciate the honest feedback. I’m making this bot to drive engagement for the community, so it’s important to know what the community wants/needs right now at its current level of activity.
I was thinking exactly the same thing as you. One post per day. But before I make any rash decisions (because each decision is quite a bit of work for me 😭), I think I want to get a feel for how many comments we would get per post during the regular season with this format. Currently even reddit, which normally has hundreds or even thousands of comments per game is currently only getting like a dozen or so comments from like 2-3 people. If during the regular season it’s still like 0 to 1 people per game, then yeah, it’s gotta change to one post per day. And maybe during the playoffs we could go back to the current format.
The other idea I had was to post all the game threads for each game in another community, then have the one daily post in this community with links to the post to each game thread. But currently with the way lemmy treats links to posts, everyone would be redirected to lemmy.ca, and anyone who doesn’t have an account on lemmy.ca wouldn’t be able to comment from that link. So I think that doesn’t work unless lemmy changes how links to posts work to be more like links to users and communities.
Either way, I think I’m going to wait until the regular season starts to make a decision. I just hope the GDT spam isn’t too bad for now. But as of now, I’m leaning towards one daily post with fewer details than the current ones have now. Maybe just the scores and the time clocks for each game.
