The vote Wednesday happened in under a minute, with no Minneapolis City Council members discussing the measure or its timing before deciding the matter.
Today I learned that the Minneapolis Muslim population is large enough that there are three Muslims on its City Council. I knew Prince was from there but I still kind of expected it to be a much whiter city than it is. Interesting.
Ok, they missed the vote because the meeting was on Eid. But a year ago they moved the meeting to avoid Eid. Then 10 days before the meeting they find out that Eid was on a different day and they didn’t bother to request a move until under 3 days before the meeting, which is shorter than allowed.
I can’t have too much sympathy for them. They could have requested the move the day they discovered that Eid was going to conflict, but they didn’t.
