You’ll might hear more of them in the future. Chinese car makers really ramped up their international presence in the last few years, especially for EVs. In western countries, they mostly only sell fleet vehicles such as electric buses, but in Asia their small and cheap electric cars are already dominating the EV market.

They’re definitely growing in Europe. The Chinese manufacturers get huge subsidies from the Chinese government in the whole EV supply chain and consumers get big subsidies from members state governments to buy them so they are significantly cheaper than European or American made vehicles, be it buses or cars due to the much cheap labour in China.

Labour point doesn’t really work when the western manufacturers also build in China factories.

I don’t know if it is based on truth however these cars are called moving spies. I don’t drive cars so I didn’t investigate it and on the other hand Tesla is coming from Elon Musk a friend of sheiks and dictators.

My biggest question would be the safety ratings. Many countries have their own vehicles but they are not considered safe in other countries. Plus you have to consider tariffs and sanctions halting imports to other countries.

to be safe on American roads you need more certifications because Americans need to express their masculinity through oversized fat cars

Uh huh, and how many of these “sold” vehicles are on roads as opposed to sitting in a field somewhere.

That’s disinformation. The Chinese have some old EVs sitting in fields but that has nothing to do with BYDs current model lineup.

For what purpose? Selling EVs is not like selling property.

BYD is now the second largest EV vendor in the world and there market share is growing rapidly. They’ve stayed out of the US market for some reason (probably worried about getting hit with sanctions like Huawei) but there are plenty of them in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Getting subsidies based on car sales from the chinese government. Just because it‘s state capitalism doesn‘t mean corporations won‘t use every trick in the book to turn a buck, especially in china. This story is widely known with many reports and clips to back them up. There are entire BYD car fleets with license plates that rot away in china.

Here in Southeast Asia, they’ve become a pretty common sight on the roads.

I suppose the next claim is going to be that BYD is hiring paid actors to drive the cars around…

Which doesn’t contradict anything I just said.
