For the hardliners, keeping a majority is like a distant second place motivation to just keeping their own jobs, and they are under bigger threat from the right in these districts. Really, the house majority probably ranks like third or fourth somewhere between “get book deal where the RNC buys 100k copies” and “take bribes from Russia.” All things which are arguably easier as an opposition party which doesn’t actually have to govern.
