Last year a woman was beaten to death because she didn’t have her hijab.

Not only last year, not only one. Last week a 16-year old girl (Armita Geravand) was injured in the head because of not having compulsory hijab and is close to death…

From my mostly limited knowledge: yes on education, though it is segregated by gender. There aren’t specifically bans on women from working or participating in politics as far as I know, but there is that whole layer of repressive legal frameworks, like the hijab law.

Which, I would say thanks to the access to education, is subject to change even under a hyperconservative religious government. But I really am not that knowledgeable on Iranian politics or current events there. I know that the protests have been dragging on, but haven’t really resulted in any structural change as far as I know.

Point is, if comparing to Afghanistan, like the original context appears to have been: relatively well off.

Relatively well off? Women are being brutalised on the regular, you legitimately think that’s relatively well off?

So it’s still supporting the Taliban and religious extremists. What’s your point of any of this?

You deny that they were sarcastic, you try to excuse their behaviour and comments. What’s your goal here?

It’s funny how all of the things they (rightly) criticize modern Western countries for are suddenly acceptable, even on a more horrific scale, if the country just says “West Bad” a few times. Sexist? Racist? Homophobic? Police state? “Well, it’s not ideal but…”

The idea that US sanctions are what destroyed Afghanistan is insane. Really just some… quality tankie brainrot.

Just because they tolerate transgender people under certain circumstances doesn’t make them “inclusive.” It’s mandatory that they be straight after transitioning and they’re treated like freaks if they don’t get “the surgery.”
