While I don’t feel like a beacon of enlightenment myself, knowing that I have a certain inertia, with a set of blind spots and impulses - which sometimes I don’t even know what or where they are - I strive to become a more aware and empathetic individual, stumbling and failing often.
So many people sound so far gone up any myriad of disinformation holes that it makes me shudder that I, any one of us, could have been this person, or some republican q-anon type. And somebody creates and shovels this shit. They’re all over the goddamned planet, each source like a spore trying to spread, some with more resources and/or luck than others.
Misinformation weaponized and targeted at ignorance, with the aim of creating a plague of what I see as mental illness.

Also, it amuses me that they think they aren’t already aligned with states just like Israel, except they say “America Bad”. Big “Our Glorious Religion vs. Their Primitive Superstition” vibes, denial through pure tribalism.

I used to be alt-right when I was young, all into that evil woke and gamergate shit. Thankfully I managed to get myself out of it.
Once they started to speak against lgbtq rights, that’s when I had the moment of realisation that perhaps these people aren’t exactly virtuous, so I quickly called my faults and left that path of extremism. From then I’ve always been really into extremist communities, neo-nazis, religious zealots, and tankies, of course–I’ve been in their circles and also join their more private groups to see how they treat each other when in a private space.
And you’re exactly right. It’s mental illness, all the way down.
