These my new kittens Carl, Donut and Mongo. They are basically one cat with three bodies. I think they are a swarm cat.

    Cutest thing just happened.

I work from home, in the garage most of the time. I just left the garage to come into the house, and the fluffy little dude meowed at me, walked to the bedroom and meowed again. I followed him and he jumped up on the bed and meowed, so I sat down and he went straight onto my lap! Totally made my day, he’s not a super outwardly affectionate cat very often.

Spent the past 30 minutes talking shit with two workmates (good shit, not bad shit).

Just joined a meeting and someone asked me something. I was still in a shit-talking mindset and replied ‘sorry dawg, ain’t me’

    FUCKING KILL ME RIGHT NOW

After posting my dinner I realised I may have been insensitive to the fact that some people might be struggling right now. My apologies if I have caused any discomfort. So thought I might share some of my cost saving secrets because I like you guys. We are on a one low income so I know how it feels. Here we go.

We have never ordered ubereats. If we get take away my husband goes and gets it. We eat from local take away or we get specials from fast food. We have cut this down from once a week to once a fortnight. We eat out on special occasions.

I go to the local butchers for my meat. If I don’t eat red meat I feel fainty due to low blood pressure so I spread my meat consumption of the week. Most meat I buy is the cheaper cuts plus one special lamb product (that’s why we had ribs tonight). Sometimes I’ll see a two for deal at Coles like sausages or hamburgers and I’ll freeze them. Every 6 months I have to defrost my little freezer so we live off whatever is in there, defrost it, fill it back up.

The vegetables I have in my freezer all the time are peas, beans, broccoli and corn on the cob when it’s available. Everything else I get fresh from the market when in season.

The things that I have in my pantry all the time are pasta, rice, cous cous, chickpeas, canned tomatoes, baked beans, tuna, corn.

I check for half price specials every week. I only buy them if I need them. No point having 6 bottles of shampoo in my cupboard. Also on shampoo and conditioner, I buy pump packs when they’re $6 each. It’s shampoo and conditioner it’s all the same.

I try to make the evening meal serve 4 so my husband has lunch the next day or I’ll make enough for 6 meals so we can have leftovers for dinner the next night.

I freeze bread. You can’t beat toast. Ever.

I can’t think of anything else right now but if you want me to answer any questions I’ll be happy to answer them.

    My dinner

From top left clockwise: Aldi’s potato scallop, peas, sauted mushrooms with chives, marinated lamb ribs definitely not burnt just well done, mint jelly. Corn on the cob not pictured.

Please note that the plate is small. (26cm in diameter)

My husband made an observation. He said “I noticed that the smaller ribs did not make the photo but ended up in my lunch”. :)

Recieved a disappoining pay rise for the new FY. Despite my employer saying they weren’t interested in negotiating the amount, I am asking for more anyway. Worst that can happen is they say no. And let them - so when I leave, they know their tightassery is to blame.

I’m on an EBA which has just expired, which means my employer will spend the next year failing to negotiate, before eventually agreeing to 4% a year for the next three years, with maybe a $1000 one off payment which does not make up for the year without a payrise, and it will be reported in the media as a 12% payrise making everyone think that is an annual rate. Then I get to see people grumble about public servant fatcats wasting public money while actually getting less than average. It’s a great life as a wage earner, isn’t it?

What we have here is a failure to launch. Dammit.

It has to be a problem with the date, bot won’t work after midnight. It’s eather Cinderella or a gremlin. Next attempt will be before midnight, if that posts it will be a stopgap solution at least while I work out the issues. Maybe I can check the dark web for bot viagra.

It’s like learning to fly with only a pilot training manual. Lots of really great detailed information, but what you really need is for someone to explain where to find a plane🤣 Everything I find assumes you know how to put something like this into production and just need help with writing the actual code. But I have code and need to know how to actually use it.

There is a guy in the Brisbane sub who has written code for a daily thread there, I’m hoping he will actually answer my questions and help. Programmers seem more than happy to share code freely, but are very tight lipped with details of how to use it. I think there is some sort of secret handshake or something.

Day 10 of my exercises completed. This morning I snuck into my MIL’s back room, which is like a sun room/family room, and did them there. So much space! I think I will continue this from now on. She isn’t up early so I’m not disturbing her, and she’s said she doesn’t mind me using the space.

Yesterday I set a target of 2500 steps and we were busy at work so I ended up doing 6129. It won’t be anything like that today because I’ll be standing at a bench hand stretching pizza bases and cutting dough.

    Have a lovely day!

Fun fact about daily steps, you don’t actually have to get 10k steps a day. It’s recommended you get 6k - 8k steps a day to see improvements. Anything more it just plateaus.

Hey you’re right, I remember reading something about it being a setting on a brand of pedometer, or the Japanese symbol for 10,000 looks like a walking man or something like that. Thank goodness, I think that’d be pushing it ATM!

So from what I’ve heard, or at least from the podcasts I listen to, it was created after the Tokyo Olympics in the 50s(?) and they kind of just landed on 10k. They say that, yeah the kanji symbol for 10k looks like a walking man, or that 10k has some form of symbolic reference.

I felt very justified when I heard that because my partner often said I shouldn’t aim for 6k steps a day, but hehehe, jokes on them.

No it doesn’t. I get minimum 20k steps/day, and I get other guys (as well as the occasional woman) telling me I have nice legs. You may get diminishing returns above 6k, but more is better.

Congratulations, but it does. Here’s a SMH article about it. Here’s a NYT article that was linked in the SMH article (archive.org because of the paywall). And here’s another SMH article about it, that was also linked in the first SMH article.

That’s great that you get 20k+ steps a day, not saying that 10k steps is bad for you, you just don’t get any more added benefits if you do that many steps. Besides, the whole 10k steps thing is kind of bullshit anyways because not everyone can do 10k steps. There are people who take shorter steps, so a 30minute walk might be 2k steps compared to someone who takes larger steps. There’s elderly people, or kids. Everyone has different mobility levels.

Again, that’s awesome that you get 20k steps a day. But for some people it’s not feesable, and the literature is out there. Doing 10k steps is great, but you don’t get any added benefits if you do more than 8k.

I’ve read the cited study. It’s about longevity specifically - you’re unlikely to live longer by taking more than 7,000 steps per day. It says nothing about other benefits, or lack thereof. I know I’m fitter, have better lung capacity, better endurance, better pain tolerance from putting up with blisters on my feet, etc. from covering big distances consistently. Judging from comments, it’s good for my appearance, too.

You are doing so well. I’m not doing well with being consistant. I’m trying to work out the best time to add the weights workout into my routine, but it does not fit easily. I somewhat like doing it after work, but working 12 hour days makes it hard. On my days off I tend to get wrapped up in ongoing projects and not get to it. I want to find a time that will work to make a firm committment to myself to do it, not having a specific time means I keep putting it off.

I can manage to fit in eating, walking the dog and sleeping, anything else is a bit of a stretch! I do get more days off though which is pretty nice. It just makes it hard to work out things like weights routines that don’t really fit the schedule, especially as they are generally organised on the basis of a 7 day week which I don’t do.

Just want to vent a bit about a really horrible experience trying to go out to trivia in Brisbane tonight. I’m up here for a work conference and didn’t want to go to the costume dinner thing they had, so booked a table at a local pub thinking I’d see if another team wanted a solo extra. First off the pub was super seedy and gross, the stickiest place I’ve been to in years. Then the only thing on the menu I could eat (recently developed awful reflux that I think is triggered by onion and garlic) was the pear and rocket salad and you guys, it is in my top 5 worst meals of all time. It was genuinely inedible. Then the trivia host ignored my three separate times as she went table to table. Genuinely ignored me waving and saying excuse me. At that point I just said fuck it and left. Now I’m sitting back in my hotel room eating yogurt and an apple as the saddest fucking dinner because my anxiety is through the roof. Fuck me. Plus it’s raining so now I have wet jeans that might not dry in time for me to pack them in my suitcase tomorrow.

OK, bot has now been given a process management system to help run continually and not crash completely if there is an error. Not sure if it will help with the not posting at/after midnight issue, but it can’t hurt and will give me a bit more information.

I have instructed the bot to post at 11:55, but after past failures am much less hopeful it will actually work ☹️ I’ve added in a few more test posts elsewhere at various intervals to try and get some more information about what is going wrong. At the moment the theory that the cat is sabotaging it seems as likely as anything else. It is very frustrating that every single test I do works perfectly, and the actual post doesn’t.
