Killing physical media = corporate wet dream.

The shitshow has begun already in video streaming. It’s just a matter of time for it to start for audio streaming.

This is very bad for consumers.

I don’t see how this is good for Best Buy though, they don’t have a streaming service AFAIK.

I assume they’ll fill that space with something “more profitable”. Like sex toys.

I guess it fills the same need, something to do on a Friday night.

tbh this sucks for me. I usually order games online for store pickup at the Best Buy which is a 15 minute walk from my apartment. Gets me the game as fast as possible on release day since I show up when the store opens. Now I can still go to the Target across the street from there, but they aren’t as good about stock. :/

That sucks, but it’s not surprising. 4K Bluray looks great but it’s not as mind-blowing as the jump from VHS to DVD was, or DVD to Bluray. It’s technically superior to all streaming services (if anyone knows of a legal, legit, high-bandwidth streaming service, let me know) but for 99.99% of the consumer market, streaming is good enough.

Best Buy did some mind-blowing sales late last year or early this year. You could pick up a bunch of 4K Blurays for $5 - $10. Lots of good stuff, too.

Plus a lot of the bigger shows lately are locked behind their respective streaming services. Tried to see if I could grab Blu-Rays instead for the services that only have one or two things I’m interested in but no dice.

They killed Archer Blu-ray releases after 6 seasons. Stranger Things, 2. Bojack Horseman, one. Haunting of Hill House and Good Omens only got standard HD, not 4K (at least initially, haven’t checked recently).

I’m more than happy to buy media for things that I enjoy. Much more likely than I am to keep streaming subscriptions active.

Damn, I had no idea. I should keep an eye out if they do another. I don’t think we even have a BluRay player in the house other than in my computer, and it’d be nice to have the option.

Do you want surge pricing in movies after you’ve been socially engineered to want to watch them? So say it’s the 40th anniversary of Goonies or something - they are all on the talk shows and there’s a discussion around the water cooler at work and now you really want to watch?

Well it’s pulled from all streamers a month before and the price triples to rent/buy in the digital services for the month following.

Did you cancel your paramount plus monthly streaming subscription? Well now we’re also going to disable digital access to any of the paramount movies that you “own” because the streaming membership also came with an exclusive paramount DRM validator license that you don’t have now… :(

This is a huge bummer. I really like having physical bluray copies of my favorite movies. I always get my DVDs and blurays locally whenever I can, usually at best buy.

Best buy still exist ? Around here it was mostly use to try gadget in store before getting it for a better price somewhere else.

And i understand that you don’t really “own” anything you get digital but and that just me how much of the movie/serie you got that was really worth getting in physical form after asking myself that question my collection got from 400 to maybe 20-30 ( some special edition or collector i kept )

Best Buy price matches Amazon so I can read reviews online and buy in person to get it the same day without waiting for or paying for shipping.
