Low-income persons are often depicted in the media as lazy, dishonest and dangerous

High-income persons, especially ultra high-income persons, are lazy, dishonest and dangerous … they do no work other than to claim ownership over things, they are dishonest of how they achieve and retain their wealth … and most of all, they are dangerous because they perpetuate the idea that they are not the problem to global wealth inequality.

Another misleading way low-income persons are represented is… not at all. We get a consistent point of view from news media. It’s almost never a low-income one (for several reasons, none of which are an excuse). Every time I hear phrases like “the average Canadian” with no follow-up on the people who are below the floor and above the ceiling, I scream internally. On top of that, it’s not like everyone agrees on what the middle class is even supposed to be defined as (or look like).

Canada must tackle poverty to save lives

The same can be said for every country on the planet.

Sadly, this is far from a uniquely Canadian problem.
