Can we find a better term? I like the ‘gypsy cops’ concept, but the word ‘gypsy’ is considered to be offensive by the Roma people it initially and still often describes.

Not bad. We could also do ‘traveling cops,’ sort of like ‘traveling nurses’ but with a lot more violence.

          How about “vagrant cops”?

I particularly like it because the definition I found online described a vagrant as “One who lives on the streets or constitutes a public nuisance” which is strangely fitting.

And vagrants don’t generally stay in one place all the time. It also turns the term back on them. Very nice!

I’ve always heard “wandering cops.” Makes me imagine someone having a pleasant stroll on a sunny morning, maybe whistling a tune, chewing a doughnut, looking for someone to beat up or kill.
