G/O Media is starting "modest testing" of AI content on its sites.
The company joins a growing number of media companies experimenting with the technology.
The trials resulted in a flood of buggy and plagiarized content due to inappropriate AI models.
The move to AI content preceded mass layoffs at CNET and BuzzFeed.
G/O Media journalists express outrage and frustration at the use of AI.
Unions and G/O Media employees are shocked by the news and believe that AI cannot replace the work of journalists.
G/O Media has a bad reputation in the industry, which may be due to the use of AI.
Yay! Two sites I now know to avoid!
I used to spend my lunch breaks reading all the Gawker sites before they got hollowed out by Hulk Hogan. I preferred it to Reddit because it was more articles with a comment section than the other way around.
Now all I occasionally check out is Jalopnik, and for at least a while it had a lot of recycled articles and buzzfeed your lists or ads posing as articles. I don’t think more low effort content is going to help.
