Can we do something about all these communities that are exactly the same in all but name? There’s no reason to have 15 communities about bdsm or Latex fetish or fuckin FUTA/trans.

I’m not hating on anyone’s preferences but we shouldn’t have multiple communities that have the exact same content but with a dumb twist to the name.

Yup. Same issue that Reddit had, with the same solution. Some will get popular and thrive, and the ones that don’t will eventually just sticky a link to the most popular community instead.

Eventually, the popular ones will get too popular, and you’ll start seeing the “True_[x]” communities start popping up

Totally true and I think actually beneficial to have that diversity ( and I doubt all of the duplicates are truly the exact same.) My feeling is let the mods of these communities to prove themselves and their committment over time.

Idk. I agree. But i also see some possibility that this will fragment a community. And make every one of those copies less fun for a potential user than - lets say - on a competing social media platform. Anyways things haven’t settled yet. We’ll see.

Duplicate communities are kind of the point of such a decentralized platform. A single monilithic version of a community isn’t able to completely dominate a single interest because there can be any number of copies that have just as much abikity to grow just as large. (E.G. you don’t have reddit mods who run 5,000 subreddits banning younfrom half the site because you disagreed with them because they can’t possibly run every version of that community on every instance)

We are in an early start with a lot of communities. So I have to agree to @[email protected], the time will show which are the bigger one. But I also think, it make also sense to just contact the community mods to check if their is a way to put communities together and to operate together. Many mods probably just started because they haven’t found what they were looking for yet. I myself had a bit of a hard time with one or the other search, which is getting much better since more communities and content are available. Maybe that’s why there were accidentally more communities than intended.

We’re not actively destroying redundant communities unless one gets abandoned by a moderator or has zero posts for more than a few days while the other comm is active. Otherwise, we welcome the diversity of viewpoints and interests that multiple comms provide.

That said, if communities with similar interests want to join, we’re happy to nuke the one that doesn’t need to continue.

But what about when multiple comms consist of the exact same content? Same creators, same pictures, same everything? I get how having multiple comms leads to pruning and fully fledged communities it just seems to me that the footholds have already been made. You can search for something and already see which are most popular.

I understand the purpose of niche communities but at the moment they share the same names as the commonplace communities which leads to confusion and annoyance.

I hear you, but admins aren’t going to pick winners and losers between similar, active communities unless one is being obviously shitty and abusive. If the mods of the respective communities can reach an accord, great. If not, diversity of expression is healthy!

Fair enough. Thank you for the informative response. I replied to you only because I felt you’d have the best response and I was not let down.

Although I still have my gripes I understand enough to hold them back now.

Other people have made good points that I agree with already, but I still wanted to bring up this point: The main selling point of reddit for me was that there existed a subreddit for most of my at times rather particular kinks. There are enough porn sides with very broad categories to browse through if I wanted that kind of experience. It can also be nice to find and connect with other folks that are into specifically the same weird shit as you are. :D
