An employee benefit that should cost them next to nothing to offer too.
Like, they have enough money to buy fucking Activision but not enough to give their employees free access to their own service.

The thing is, if they don’t offer these cheap stuff, they may have to do something crazy, like pay staff what they are worth. This definitely looks like a false economy.

Also, giving access to your devs also kinda makes them defacto testers when they’re off the clock.

Like… getting your own people to use your product is a net positive.

Actually though. You see this in other industries too but once shareholders are involved everyone’s brain becomes smooth and creamy.

Microsoft staff aren’t hurting for money. They get paid a lot, and they have amazing benefits including dozens of perks like this.

Often, yes. But you can’t take responsibility away from employers. I have been one and I behaved responsible. I didn’t become a billionaire because greed is always abusive.

It’s also a very hostile work environment purposefully built to pit you against your coworkers.

Yeah, that’s why people typically tap out after a few years. I know someone who worked for them for 3 years. Working for them accelerated his retirement plans by a decade since they pay so well, but after 3 years he was very unhappy and left.

Their pay really isn’t great. For warehouse work or offices, most cities have an absolute abundance of positions with equal or higher pay.

I’m talking about engineering positions, but the warehouse pays pretty well around here (Seattle) too.

Such a cheap perk. Such an unnecessary FUCK YOU. Terrible decision making.

I’d get a PlayStation just out of spite.

With what Sony done recently I am not getting into it that quickly. PS5 would be my last “day 1” console from Sony. It’s fake below but imagine:

“PS6 now comes with [insert amazing spec and launch year line up], with all the features now provided on the platform and sustain our development and continual improvement of PS6, a PS Plus [insert whatever tier that made up by marketing] is included for the first year and is required for your PS6 to function and access our online store and all other essential functions. Don’t forget that we also give you [insert features that gamer don’t really give a fuck], it will be amazing when you are not playing a game and just wants to chill and/or social with your friends.”

If that happened, then PS5 would be my “last” playstation, I am not paying more PS Plus.

      • reminder, if you “pre-order” anything, the auto renewal is turned back on automatically. Best check your auto renew and if possible just remove the CC info.

After looking into this more with the team, I just want to confirm that no change will be made to Game Pass availability in 2024.

So it’s going away in 2025 now?

That must be the positive change to the industry the takeover was promised to bring.

I don’t know, it really helps me feel the plight for lumberjacks who quite their job to go work at Microsoft so they could get free gamepass.
