I am planning to upgrade my CPU because i bought a 3070 and i dont know if the 14600kf will bottleneck more than the 13600k.
In my country the 14600kf is cheaper than the 13600k but im scared that the 14th gen will be too powerfull for my 3070
Thoughts?
Too many unknowns to give you any good advice. You need to give info about your system and usage.
- What CPU are you currently using?
- What resolution and refresh rate are you using?
- What types of games are you playing?
I can say- in general there is no such thing as CPU being ‘too powerful’ for a GPU (you can over spend based on your budget though). And there is no difference between 13th and 14th gen performance so buy 13th gen if it is better price.
I currently play at 1080p (60hz) and maybe in the future at 1440p and i will have either a 13600kf or 14600kf
When it comes to games i mostly play all of the new ones, i want to have a pc powerful enough to be capable of running all of them at 1080p ultra
Try to shift the word “bottleneck” more to the back of your thoughts. It’s not that necessary as you maybe think. Especially not in this case. Here the GPU is more likely to “bottleneck” the CPU but I would say think about it if you have a 1660… . Does not make any difference if you take the 13 or 14 here… go with the one you want to.
Yes! Something will always be a bottleneck in a given scenario.
If your current CPU is too weak for what you’re trying to achieve and you have the money, then go for it!
I am in the same boat, but I have convinced myself that I don’t really need a 13th/14th gen because my OC’d 7700k is still enough for me. And upgrading would cost me around 550€, which is a lot for me
Thank you very much!!!
Honestly, most haven’t said the way it is, the 14600k and its variants is a 13600k with an overclock, that’s all it is.
In your scenario, where you live, the 13600k costs more because it has the iGPU, which the 14600kf doesn’t.
As for gaming and bottlenecking, you can literally pair a 13600k with a 4090 and have minimal bottleneck when compared to a 13900k.
People still think of these as just i5’s but anyone who has one, will tell you they are way more powerful than what most have traditionally known as an i5.
No matter which way you look at it, there is always a bottleneck one way or another, there’s nothing you can do about that. But what you can do is try your best to ensure you’re more bottlenecked by the GPU, than you are CPU.
In the case of a 13600k/14600k/KF and a 3070 all the way up to about a 4070ti-4080, you will be GPU bottlenecked. So choose whichever suites your budget, either way you’re going to have one hell of a powerful CPU, just decide whether you want/need the iGPU or not.
I personally see the value in the iGPU myself, for that small bit extra in cost, it gives me piece of mind, knowing that if something happens to my GPU, I can still use the iGPU to have a display and troubleshoot, or at least still use the pc while the GPU is getting repaired or replaced.
Got it!!! Thank you!
btw i meant 13600kf, i know the difference but THANK YOU!
If you have 99% GPU usage, I’d never call that a bottleneck. That is the best scenario you can have.
However, if you got less than 90% GPU usage, then that is the thing I would call “bottleneck”.
There will always be some sort of bottleneck in your system, so don’t worry much about it.
THANK YOU!!!
A 10600k is not “bottlenecking” a 3070 in many cases. But it all depends on the scenario.
but im scared that the 14th gen will be too powerfull
choosing powerful cpu mostly useful , if you need that for your purpose…
(very lower cpu + higher end gpu will create most of the bottleneck issues)
and 13600k (k version) have igpu, so add some value for it then compare price (14600kf and 13600k performance are almost similar, i think)
i tried some bottleneck calculators and all of them said that i have a 32% bottleneck from a 14600kf paired with a 3070 on 1080p
no,.
dont use those calculaters is not work in realtime…firstly, are you looking for specific task ? like for single game?
if you join 14600kf + 3070 ;
in most of game (cpu use 50-70% usage and gpu usage 99%);
in some cpu intensive games (like cs2, city skyline , cyberpunk 2.0 ) (cpu use 90-100% and gpu use 40-100% depends upon the graphics settings);when you consider bottleneck issue is ,. your cpu is not enough to use 99% of gpu in many games ,…
so considering bottleneck for this items is pointless
i finally bought the i5 14600kf and i ll pair it with my 3070 with a z690 gaming x board with 16gb ram, whaddya think?
