Tom Hiddleson almost single handedly carrying the entire Marvel franchise at this point.

Man I keep forgetting it’s those guys. Yes, The Endless and Resolution are amazing sci-fi. Another in a similar vein, albeit different creators, is Coherence. Best to go in blind on that one too.

Yes! I love movies like that. When it makes you think “How are the logistics behind this film’s production even possible?”

I can’t think of anything else that intricate that was shot without a script or that the narrative was an entirely pre/post-production construction. But I am not the arbiter of film knowledge either.

Oh, not to that level. But thinking of stuff where I don’t even know how they write something so complicated and keep it straight. ‘Primer’, the TV show ‘Dark’, many of Nolan’s films to a lesser extent. But then even stuff like Doctor Strange, the crazy CGI they do is just mind blowing to me. Everything Everywhere comes to mind. I’m having trouble thinking of more, but I know there’s been some lately that I had that feeling. Can’t think of them off the top of my head at the moment.

                  Upstream Color

                  Thanks, will check this out.

Oh Under The Skin is one of my favorites. It’s a masterclass in uneasiness. I love so-called arthouse films. So much of what A24 is doing lately has been right up my alley. Everything Everywhere rose to my favorite of all time but I loved The Green Knight, Lamb, Men, all of Ari Asters movies. I’m really disappointed in the announcement they are moving to more mainstream, blockbuster toe fare.

I can only agree. I fell behind on when it started so I was able to binge the first 4 episodes. I found myself really paying attention to the episodes and not scrolling on my phone or laptop at the same time like I typically do. I was even eager for the next episodes.

It’s been awhile since I felt that way. Maybe Mr Robot being the last time.

At this point they could kill off the whole MCU and only keep Loki, I wouldn’t be even slightly sad.

How many possible sources of parallel universe do we have again?

    • Variants
    • Time travel
    • Magic
    • Quantum mechanics

I think it’s time to prune a little.

What about compared to the first season? Is it anywhere close?

It was underwhelming compared to season one, which upped the ante which each episode. It overly relies on a MacGuffin which is kind of boring. They certainly followed HWR’s words to the letter, “you can’t get to the end until you’ve been changed by the journey” and so on. Unfortunately, said journey was a lot less riveting than season one’s. It may be harsh but the five first episodes felt like filler to me.

The finale however, really picks up the pace and delivers a memorable and a worthy conclusion.

I feel like S2 episodes 2 and 3 were particularly bad. “Filler” definitely feels like the appropriate word, S2E3 in particular felt to me like it was heavily padded out. The finale really saved the season, no matter how you slice it.

Also, I’m disappointed that my personal fan theory didn’t pan out:

        spoiler

Have Renslayer turn out to be a female Kang variant. Could’ve made for an interestingly parallel with Sylvie and Loki, and would explain why He Who Remains trusts her with so much. We didn’t actually see Renslayer die though, so maybe…

I thought that was right at the start of episode 4:

            spoiler

Miss Minutes shows Renslayer a recording (which appears like a tiny live-action diorama, kind of a cool effect I thought) of He Who Remains (HWR) talking to Renslayer, except she’s in a hunter uniform instead of a judge’s uniform. The recording shows that Renslayer used to be at the right hand of HWR. After Renslayer heads back to the TVA, HWR has Miss Minutes activate “Protocol 42” to erase the memories of everyone working at the TVA, including Renslayer.

I would have been more inclined to watch this if season one had been self-contained and there had been more time between s1 & s2.
