I thought I’d need a 12700K for my build but had to settle for 12100. Got it 1 year ago.
This thing runs everything I throw at it and gives me at least 60FPS.
Even heavily moded Stalker Anomaly gives me reasonable performance.
I switched sides after about 12 years of using AMD CPUs (a 12700k was cheaper to build than 5800X), and this mini beast was a very very good first impression of Intel for me.
Yea them 12th gen chips you can find cheap sometimes. I got a i5 12600k for like 120 dollars brand new which I though was a pretty good deal

Good work on picking what works out best for your budget and not sticking to a specific brand. Everyone needs to do this.
Performance wise is it on par with a 10700k? Seems to be according to user benchmark but I never know if I should trust that site. If it is, it should be more than enough for current games.
Are you aware that a cheap common mobo like Asrock b760m pg riptide can overclock this CPU and in my experience it should have no problem running at 5Ghz all cores ? Then it is even sweeter deal. Just note that when overclocking this CPU on these special boards while safe you lose Sleep in Windows.
I have my 12100 overclocked to 4.9ghz and it rips. So fast I put my 5960x in the bin lol
Most CPUs are way overkill these days. When a CPU limited a GPU to 90% everyone screams “bottleneck” as if it’s going to blow up their PC and rushes to upgrade with a $500 budget to get that extra 10 fps back.
i mean, you don’t want your bottleneck to be your CPU
I think the issues that causes are way overblown vs GPU bottlenecks. It’s a little worse yeah. But people will still drop their CoD or RB6:Siege graphical settings to low on their so they can be CPU limited all day on their 4090.
What about threads? I always wanted this cpu but opted for 5700x. Was a bit afraid it would loose with the lack of threads but seems great with rtx 4060 budget build.
4c/8thread not too shabby, it really rips… I definetly love mine :D
well, seems you sticked to AMD thru their worst moments and switched when they were good xD
Also, 5800X is a bad deal anyway, 5700X is the same but runs cooler…And for gaming a i5/R5 are usually the better options anyway.
