Just loaded up Halo Infinite on PopOS and it ran flawlessly. I’m blown away, and am now looking at moving up my plans to switch away from Windows for my desktop. The future of Linux gaming is bright!
If you’re looking for another shooter, Hunt Showdown also runs great on Linux (though you do need to disable the steam overlay for now… the steam UI update caused some problems)! You can also join us over in the Hunt Showdown Lemmy community 😉.
Wine has come a long way! Though Linux-native gaming is not on AAA studios’ radar…
I wasn’t even using Wine. I installed it and launched through Steam and the entire process was as seamless as if it were on Windows. Valve is doing great work.
Steam used proton which is a modified version of Wine
Well, Steam uses its Wine fork, Proton, under the hood (for non-native games). Nice to hear it’s seamless (I’m too far into having customised everything to know what the out-of-the-box experience is like)!
Steam has added a lot for the Linux community.
I know it’s proprietary but I love them for it.
That’s kind of amazing. There’s no issues with multiplayer and anticheat? Does MCC work as well?
I didn’t try MCC or multiplayer, since I was just performance testing on the computer (will eventually be the wife’s machine after we move next month), but even running Academy with the bots was running great. I was able to sign into my Microsoft account no problem though, so I want to try multiplayer next.
