At the moment i have a 13700f and it looks like i have a cpu bottleneck with my current gpu (a 4090) and im not sure what would be the best option for upgrading since im also a bit flat on money now since i got my new gpu
Also im not sure if the prices here in my country are high but the 13900k is about 700 USD and the 14900k is about 800usd and the 14700k is about 500usd.
Doubt it’s the CPU. Max boost on those things is 5.2GHz stock boost. On 13700K it’s 5.3-5.4GHz and so forth. So you’re saying 200-600MHz is going to get rid of your bottleneck? It could very well be the game you’re playing is not optimized. Because compare them all:
13700F up to 5.2GHz stock boost 8/16 +8
13700K up to 5.4GHz stock boost 8/16 +8
14700K up to 5.6GHz stock boost 8/16 +12
13900K up to 5.8GHz stock boost 8/16 +16
14900K up to 6.0GHz stock boost 8/16 +16
So going from 5.2 to say 5.6-6.0GHz will not eliminate a bottleneck so there is something else, if you want to max out your GPU then go 4K. At 1440p you shouldn’t be getting a bottleneck and could just be the game you’re playing.
14700k if you don’t need to do work with software related stuff, 14900k if you just wanna do everything.
13th gen doesn’t have APO so forget about that.
Also 13700 is fine, no need for an upgrade at least for another 5-7 years.
Nothing should be bottlenecking generally either way unless you’re running a demanding game at 4k or doing some processor-heavy stuff.

If you do upgrade, I’d buy the cheapest of the three as they’ll perform similarly. I would also consider the 13700k if you can save more.
You’ll need a substantial cooler especially if you want to overclock.
13700K vs 13700F is not worth the upgrade cost-wise. 14900K is the most cost-effective upgrade given it will yield 12% and 50% speed gains in single-thread and multi-thread applications, respectively
13700k is already pretty damn good you shouldn’t need to upgrade, you already have all 8 pcores.
But sure if you want you could get a 14700k or 14900k. Probably 14900k if you want to see a difference. But again, it will be small. You already have 95% of the gaming performance avaliable on the socket.
Are you sure you’re not experiencing, like a game engine limitation or something? What are you trying to do that you can’t?

Let’s assume you get a 14900K then, overclock it to 6 GHz P-cores using direct die cooling, and throw on 8000 MT/s DDR5 with a Z790 Apex Encore for good measure. You’re now somewhere around 30% faster in games than your previous setup, and GPU utilization will occasionally hit 90% instead of 70%
All for the neat sum of roughly 2000 USD

Oh I see. Sorry I missed that. Yeah I suppose a 14700k wouldn’t be a bad upgrade since you can still get pretty good money for your existing cpu. Your all core boost would go from 5.1 to 5.5. Thats something. But just so you know, it can be hard to get 100% utilization out of the 4090 on any cpu, especially at lower resolutions.
a 14900K is about what? 5-10% faster? not worth it, wait a few months and buy a 8800X3D

The difference is how well AMD supports their platform to be honest. AM5 could easily last someone ten years. I’d say it’s absolutely atleast worth considering. Until Intel abandons their current socket and platform changes I’ll absolutely never go back.

As a 13700F and 14900K owner I’ll say that I’ll be waiting to see how the 8800X3Ds actually perform before even thinking about getting one.
yeah… most people dont care about multithreading, and yeah, 12% st is important, but 8800X3D is said to deliver 20% better st? read that even 30% is possible, while being way way more efficient and like 30-40% better in gaming… 14900K is a waste of money if already have the 13700

Definitely not worth upgrading to any of those.
I have a 13700k not overclocked and a 4090 and I don’t see a bottleneck at all, everything runs very well. Is something else happening you may not be recognizing? Upgrading to a 14 series won’t do much for you expect cost you money, by all accounts it would be closer to a “sideways” upgrade over an actual increase in performance.
Before upgrading your CPU
- What fps do you get?
- What is your screen resolution? Refresh rate?
- What is your game config? Which games?
Do you play CS 2 and getting only 400 fps instead of 600 on 1440p and it bothers you? Or do you play 4k games with RT on maxed out graphics but not fully utilizing your GPU?
13700f is fairly strong, and should be capable of handling relatively high frame rates, so your game configuration might have a lot to do with your bottleneck.
If you are tight on money DON’T upgrade your PC, especially if it’s just because of neglectable bottleneck.
Quit watching YouTube videos about performance benchmarks and go play some games with your overpowered system, man. And turn off stat monitoring, it’s messing with your anxiety. Your PC is among the top 1% worldwide.
I’m guilty of this obsessive need to keep track of my PC’s stats during gaming. I’m still running an i7 4790k + RTX 3060. The CPU has been with me since Dec 2014. 😅

Also, how are you even CPU limited right now? Just get a better monitor, that’s likely the real bottleneck
13900k for sure , 14900 is a disaster Gen , The same architecture and more expensive , Also the 14700k on the power efficiency consumes the almost the same like the 13900k or 14900k and with worse performance , So would recommand you to take the 13900k

You will always have cpu bottleneck even with 14900k. No cpu available can supply enough instruction to a 4090 to max it out. If i were you, id turn of your monitor program and enjoy the game. Youre chasing yt figures that arent relevant

Benchmarks show a 3% difference between 13700k and 14700k in gaming. You will not appreciate a difference. Save your money
