But SpaceX has literally lowered the cost of a launch by an order of magnitude. They also are flying one of the most successful rockets ever flown.
Evolution isn’t some sentient force striving for perfection. There is a lot of retarded stuff that we have evolution to thank for. This could just be a side effect of some other trait that normally helps the fish survive. Plus, earthquakes don’t happen often enough to affect evolution in the long run.
I don’t know if I quite agree with that being a morale issue. But that same logic nuclear reactors are immoral because if they blow up they can cause a lot of harm.
I do agree that it is a little sketchy for human flight, but they wouldn’t use it if there was a significant chance of it harming the people on board.
Going to the moon was a fantasy at one point. I just don’t see any downsides to trying to become multi-planetary. Even if it fails there would still be technology developed in pursuit of that goal that helps life on earth.
That wouldn’t happen for an extremely long time. It will be many generations before Mars would be self sufficient enough that they could wage war on Earth. I don’t feel like that’s enough of a possibility to not even try colonizing another planet.
I’m not aware of any reason on why we’d want to colonize the bottom of the ocean, but there’s many reasons to want to become a multi-planetary species. Space exploration has also lead to many technologies being used in everyday life today.
What’s morally questionable about fission fragment drives?
What do you mean from that distance? By the time he shot her they were <5 feet apart.
You’re right, it doesn’t change the fact that the cop completely failed at controlling the situation and she is now dead because of that, but it muddy’s the water and creates conversations that don’t need to be had (like this).
I don’t know why you seem to think that getting boiling water thrown at you would be like taking a hot shower, but that could seriously mess someone up for life.
Nope, she still had the pot in her hands up until the point he shoots her. You can even see steam coming off the ground after she gets shot.
I don’t think either of their lives are more or less important than the others, but I do think the officer has the full responsibility for how that situation plays out.
I just hate the dishonesty about the situation, it makes your criticism look weaker. You can 100% criticize the cop without lying about the facts.
I think y’all need to rewatch the video then. Keep in mind that I agree that the cop fucked up big time and should’ve handled the situation differently, but it does more harm to not get the facts right. He didn’t shoot her when he was standing away and she was at the sink. She ducked behind the counter, he got closer so he could see her and make sure she’s not doing anything sketchy, and then he shot her as she was starting to stand back up with the pot in her hands still. Also I don’t like the defense that it’s bonkers to assume she couldn’t do harm to one or both of them since there are two of them. There are plenty of videos of people doing crazy shit even when outnumbered. That’s the scary thing about these situations is that things can become very bad very quickly.
I do agree with your last point though. She could still be alive if the whole situation leading up to the shooting was handled differently. But I think it’s silly to deny that there was potential for harm and that the cop had any right to be worried about the pot of hot water.
Are you saying a knife couldn’t be threatening just because it’s used in a diner? What a stupid comment. Again, I’m not justifying the shooting, I think the cop fucked up to let it even get to that point, but don’t pretend like it was just a “pot of water”. You can still criticize the officer without lying about the facts.
Wtf are you talking about? Are you denying that a pot of boiling water would be easy to throw at someone and severely mess them up?
Come on… It was a pot of boiling hot water. If she did throw it at the cops that could do a lot of damage. I’m not saying it looked like she was going to throw it and I don’t think the shooting was justified, but don’t pretend like the cops would’ve just “gotten wet”. It doesn’t look good when you lie.
While I do agree that there are scenarios that are very complicated, I feel like this website does a very poor job at showing those. Almost every single scenario they show doesn’t make sense at all. Why are there barriers on one side of the road, why does half the crosswalk have a red light while the other half has a green light?
Why do you think that space is a huge downgrade though?
In his partners body cam video you can hear a sound before he starts shooting. Still don’t know how you would mistake that for a gunshot, but there was at least a sound 🤷
It looks like it really has to pee.
Not quite. They are pushing it a little harder. You still have the Facebook website, but their branding for other things now has Meta more front and center (i.e. Oculus Quest -> Meta Quest)
Fair enough. I’ve just been jaded from reading people bash on SpaceX anytime anything in space “fails”. But yeah, those events are similar in the sense that on the surface it looks like a failure, but they met their main mission goal and learned a lot from it. It sounds like the engine issue might’ve happened for them before, so hopefully they got a lot of good data from this and are able to fix the issue.
It’s important to keep in mind that going to space is very hard. Landing on another celestial body is order of magnitudes harder.
I thought it was in reference to Dark Brandon.
