  • I know this is a late reply, but thank you for pointing that issue out. All of the spam comments were reported to the Internet Archive staff team and I am happy to update that The Internet Archive has since removed all the spam reviews, and they have also disabled all further reviews on this upload going forward.

The main files are safe to use and are not affected by reviews. I have been personally using this same exact upload not long after it was initally released in 2021. Perhaps I’ll make a separate post going more in-depth on how to get UT99 up and running on modern hardware, along with posting the virus scans for reassurance. There are extra precautions you can take with any game that is this old. I run it in a sandboxed environment for example. This isn’t necessarily required (especially if your game is on the latest patches) and might be seen as overkill, but I figured it was also worth mentioning.

I sincerely hope that the spam didn’t deter anyone from trying out such a great game. UT was very influential in my childhood and also influenced the FPS genre in general.

    Long live UT!

  • Yeah I only have used the steam deck, but I imagine the alternative Windows based handhelds feel much more clunky/hacky since Windows has issues suspending things in general, especially games. Maybe they fixed some of the issues on that end by now, but I feel like SteamOS is really the best and most viable option here for these other companies looking to cash in on this trend. Especially since Windows is bloated as is and not really made for this type of thing.

Not sure if Valve does this already, but perhaps they could license out SteamOS to other manufacturers too? It would make Valve’s “competition” more lucrative for them. At the very least, I hope more people start using SteamOS so Linux gaming gets more adoption as time goes on. Valve has done absolute wonders for the linux community with Proton.

This is so strange to me that I had to run it through a few AI detector sites and they all seem to have a high human probability somehow. No idea how accurate those sites are though. Perhaps it is a real image, but ran through a bad AI upscaler? Or maybe OP could have taken this picture using a phone that has AI upscaling automatically applied to their photos like the Google pixel for example.

  • I know this is a couple months old, but damn, I’m ultra disappointed in this. Feels like a big thing to take out. Will we still be able to use WSL after support ends? Because this was super useful. It is amazing being able to cast YouTube on my PC using the SmartTubeNext app. Not to mention just in general there’s a few apps I use that simply make copy/pasting from phone apps easy, especially if it’s just right there on the same system. There’s quite a few apps that are strictly phone apps only as well. Kinda sad that most people assumed you could only install stuff via Amazon appstore instead of just sideloading whatever apps you wanted.

One of the few neat and unique things first advertised about Win 11 was the fact you could run android apps on it, and now I can’t help but feel like I’m getting less now. How many other “cool new features” that I take for granted will get removed down the line at the drop of a hat?
