Hooper could have let play continue, and VAR could have gone back and seen if the goal should stand had Grealish scored.
It was incompetence through and through.

Still waiting on PGMOL and the FA to go “Waaaaaaaah, City are meanies!”
Wondering what Howard Webb will present on live TV too. Hooper’s brain scans?
Wow. Thinking fondly of Mustafi.
Now I’ve see everything
I want Pep to criticise the officials, and I want to see if he gets charged or fined.
Sweet. Draw better than City winning.
However, Totteham are still fucking useless.
Time for Don Unai to pounce and do the job right.
Against his will?
VAR failure.
That was not a VAR failure. That was a failure by the match official.
The distinction is important due to people calling for VAR to be scrapped altogether when it has been a net positive for the sport.
And nothing will be learned at all, because football fans are short-sighted tribalistic shitheads.
PSG fans cackling until it’s their turn to cry foul.
Why are you not addressing the issue that even City is up in arms about?
Grealish was through on goal. Had he let play continue, and Grealish didn’t score, then there’s no reason for VAR to intervene. No harm, no foul.
Had Grealish scored, then VAR could intervene and see whether play should have been stopped to begin with and whether the goal stands.
This is the crux of the issue, and what should have happened if Hooper was competent.
