1 year agoMy city actually does have a separate unit, but like they’re still armed police, and they’re still a part of the police department. They also have like zero access to any extra resources. It’s honestly sad. They hosted a training session for my department (library) once and it was not apparent how they differed from the police in any way other than extra training. I’m sure if I called them on a patron they’d be so chill that I got a special unit to come out. /s
Honestly there’s a lot of sneaky voter suppression that goes on here and we’re gerrymandered to hell. I think in 2020 all of Houston had like 4 ballot dropoffs? So that means a lot of residents would be driving an hour both ways to drop off a vote. Personally my library has changed precincts the night before voting day a few times. I’ve had to tell people that lived in the same apartment complex that their polling stations were 30 minutes apart.
