        i disagree with therealjcdenton but you’re missing the point.

        they’re saying that 196 “infected” the previously good other communities on Lemmy, so them blocking 196 itself doesn’t do much, and they’re losing out on content if they block the"infected" communities as well.

          what kind of infection are we talking about? shitposts? are there a lot of shitposts outside of 196 and lemmyshitpost? i haven’t noticed

          This is a natural downside of the fediverse. I’m sure there are hexbear folks who just made a new account somewhere and are in all our feeds again. Nothing to do about that

          Reddit and similar had the same issue but in general account hopping was less normal

            at least they now can’t identify each other and troll the rest of us as easily anymore

      In the beginning after the blackout, 196 was one of the biggest Lemmy communities. It definitely helped driving the switch
