One of my lovers is a black dude and he grew up broke-ass in Oakland; his mom used crack for a while and he has had bad experiences with cops.

I told my friends that some things I’d heard them joke about were off-limits, but NOT WHEN HE WAS THERE.

That’s really shitty, and it does sound like his gf has some Blind Side white savior bullshit going on.

Yeah, it’s kind of absurd how woke culture has transformed anti-racist sentiment into “the burden of the white man”. Haven’t we been there already? I feel we have

It’s not overly complicated. Social media has made countless people grow up to consider, first and foremost, how they can relate whatever news/issues they hear to themselves and reframe the issue to be centered around their own feelings.

Initially, the concept and usage of “woke” was positive, and it was primarily used within POC communities. But then, it started being used by white people—both white liberals and the right wing. And then it lost all meaning.

It meant whatever was most convenient for whomever was using it. It was used as a concept to bolster white liberal credentials while the right wing used to to describe any person/thing they wanted to tarnish with the word itself.

Social media is absolutely to blame for this phenomenon. And it’s partly to blame for the death of nuance. The de-evolution of our various forms of news also spurred nuance into non-existence, but social media trained the actual words coming out of people’s brains. It simplified everything in order to clearly establish order between liberal and conservative. Politics became a series of in-words to better learn who we support and who we yell at until we’re both on the verge of sending death threats. Politics is now whoever can land a snarkier jab has the high ground.

It’s fucking pointless. The conversation serves no one but the people having the conversation, so it can be held up as proof that they have the right beliefs for others who they are positive share their beliefs. Life is a big, meaningless joke.

Not nearly as absurd as resisting it by firing into crowds of innocent people and voting for someone who openly struggles to put basic sentences together.

If you want to play the “this person represents everyone I disagree with” game, you’re going to have to do better than one person, who may not even exist, being a dildo.

I mean, Jordan peele used this concept in his film. It’s not unheard of. And it totally tracks with white liberal America. This didn’t set off any red flags in my mind

Yeah somehow this reads as 4chan circlejerk bait. An excuse for the predominantly white male userbase to all say in unison “see? even black people hate wokeness!”

could be. The chances are quite high.

But as someone belonging to a different minority group, I’d be annoyed after a while as well if someone kept mentioning it all the time.

Thanks for being an ally and jumping in if someone is being shitty, but mentioning it proacively all the time would really annoy me

      that’s literally just sexist

women don’t exist to fuck you, a relationship has to have mutual understanding, if one person feels uncomfortable with how the other person treats them they shouldn’t just stay because “pussy”

I mean it is sexist, but I think it’s pretty reductive towards the OOP, in this case a man, to say that his discomfort is worth less than the fact that he’s allowed sex.

        Patriarchy hurts everyone.

I resonate with your comment. Not as a woman: as a man who isn’t young, I have been through many experiences. Unfortunately, my past includes being on both sides of this fence. I have had one experience where I was in a relationship “for the pussy”, and despite that being many years ago, it’s a great regret that follows me as I grow older.
Everything was consensual and not forced, however all I did in the end was hurt them, and hurt myself further through the realisation that my choices were to blame for a relationship that was empty beyond belief, with any mutual respect dwindling heavily over the time we were together.

Sex is nice, but it shouldn’t be the focus of any relationship. Living with regrets from a bad relationship isn’t something I wish for other people to experience, as it can be a horrible state of self-realisation as it’s not a trait of a good person (which I understand since). Respect what you truly and emotionally need deep down, and be comfortable with saying “no” to something that your heart tells you is a toxic thing to get into. Life is not long enough to be forcing dishonesty.

Let he who hasn’t stayed in a relationship for longer than he should have because “pussy” cast the first stone.

Joking aside, I get what you’re saying, but people don’t always make the best decisions and sex definitely influences them.

        I EXIST TO FUCK WOMEN.

Works best if you imagine me wearing a trenchcoat and trilby; perhaps some kind of pewter necklace.

This is Lemmy. Pretty much everyone is new here.

However, we are trying new things here!
And it appears trope-laden, low-effort comments that assume everyone here is secretly sexist are something the majority of folks want to leave on the old site!
