Maybe a hot take, but I actually DO get why even adults like the theming of Disney World/land and like to visit it so much. The theming is just so intricately done that it’s honestly very impressive and great to look at and just take in. When you hear about the way some of these art pieces were designed it just makes it that much more amazing imo.

But why are some of these people obsessed with the people in costumes that are clearly meant for toddlers? I don’t marvel at some sweaty tween in a weird furry costume. I don’t get it.

I used to work at the parks and loved just hanging out. There’s a lot of work that went into forced perspective and theming. Disney has always leaned hard into escapism, and it’s easy to see why someone would want to be reminded of easier years.

Oh, hey, I worked attractions and merchandise at DAK back in 2008-2014 with a few gaps in there. And same, it was nice to just chill in the parks. Did you get to do any of the cast backstage tours? I got to go on one to the Haunted Mansion, that was really cool to see.

I was attractions at DCA around that time frame as well! Got to do a track walk of Indy, previewed changed attractions, and got to do Tower of Terror no-show rides when I was closing.

I got to do a track walk of Dinosaur too, did you know that Dinosaur is just a re-themed Indy? They pointed out where the boulder would be on the other ride during the walkthrough. Disney did not put much effort into Dinoland at all, lol.

      Agreed.

Also, if an adult enjoys cartoons and sleeps with a plushie, I am not going to judge. Life is hard. Whatever it takes to get through the day, you do you.

IMO, telling people their benign coping mechanism is bad is how we get more shootings. Clutch that plushie, my dude!

Getting drunk at epcot before the fireworks show while getting to eat good food is magical for adult me. I love the food and wine festival. And even as an adult the Star Wars area is still dope

I think I have Disney PTSD from a former friend/acquaintance who had an almost supernatural ability to make any conversation into a conversation about Disney. So, now I’m super sensitive about it. Would almost rather a conversation start with “Have you heard about our Lord and savior Jesus Christ” than anything that includes the word “Disney”.

Mormons in my experience have jumbled their ‘religion’ with Disney so hard they cannot tell them apart. The latest demonization of Disney by the god-botherers has caused some distinct cognitive dissonance among my faithful extended family.

TBF a there’s a lot of crossover between Disney and the religious. Disney is seen as whloesome and safe, and that may be true to a point, but it’s also just a furtherance of the conformity and exclusion of reality that the religious expect. Disney is militant on image and making sure the parks conform to their corporate rule. The religious love that.

I used to work at Disneyland. The “disney adult” meme doesn’t seem to stack up with reality.

They’re definitely cringe, but there is a healthy dose of self awareness usually. Also, like any group, some will be “karens” and they give the group a bad name.

That doesn’t make you a weirdo, that’s pretty normal. The weird Disney adults are the ones that have been to Disney A LOT and are obsessed with it. When I lived in FL I had a coworker that would drive like 2 hrs each way to go to Disney multiple times a week! She wasted all her money on Disney shit, and it was 50% of anything she talked about. Her husband even got a job there so they could be “more involved”. Those are the weirdos.

Disney adults are a bit lame, yeah, but I swear they have nothing on the demographic that truly deserves the crown for lamest and most cringe but somehow flies under the radar:

    Harry Potter adults

And for the record, people are allowed to be lame. It doesn’t make them bad, it just makes them lame. I’ll defend their right to be lame forever, but it’s also okay to tease them lightly about it, so long as it stays good-natured. Don’t take life so serious.

Harry Potter is just “baby’s first fantasy series” with no substance and every dollar spent on HP merch goes to supporting an active and living TERF who takes monetary gains as implicit support

You know, what I’ve always felt is really weird is how, in the US, it seems to be more socially accepted to wear a gun around than to be nude publicly.

Kinda like, a device to kill someone, is more accepted, than your own body.

    So stupid.

Anyway, it’s the same for posts like this. “oh you’re an adult and are into disney/childish things” is more harshly shamed than “oh you’re a CEO of a big company and earn lots of money while exploiting your subordinates and the environment”.

Please, don’t kink shame. If everybody had kinks like these, the world would be a less hurtful place.

I think using the word “kink” implies sexual connotations, which it doesn’t have to be at all. 100% agreed with your sentiment, though. I hope that person had a blast!

Ah, ok I understand. I honestly just found it amusing, mainly because kink really isn’t a bad choice to describe their behavior.

I have always found Didney adults to be creepy, but their behavior is more or less understandable. The reason I avoid interaction is because they blindly support Didney like some kind of religious zealots.

I would like for Didney to go away. People like this will ensure Didney lives forever, they not only creep me out but make me question their ethical capacity.

I completely understand. I am from Europe, and I love cartoons and animations. Unfortunately, in the western world there is only Disney.

Disney has a lot of morally questionable attitudes.

That’s why I mostly watch anime. Currently watching Onyx Equinox. So cool.
