Is it true that the world would stop if they were white? James Foley was burned alive in HD and we hardly skipped a beat. Israel has been murdering international and white journalists for a long time. The Saudi’s butchered an American journalist and we have yet to share so much as a strong word, really. What of the WSJ reporter who is falsely imprisoned in Russia?

I think perhaps the white world would care a little bit more for a news cycle and then right back to square one. Truly dismal news

I’m not sure I understand your point. Anyway, here are some numbers in relation to this specific “war”

Journalist casualties in the Israel-Gaza war

As of Aug 1, 2024, CPJ’s preliminary investigations showed at least 113 journalists and media workers were among the more than 39,000 killed since the war began, making it the deadliest period for journalists since CPJ began gathering data in 1992.

CPJ is investigating almost 350 additional cases of potential killings, arrests and injuries.

      As of Aug 1:

      • 113 journalists and media workers were confirmed killed: 108 Palestinian, two Israeli, and three Lebanese.
      • 32 journalists were reported injured.
      • 2 journalists were reported missing.
      • 52 journalists were reported arrested.
      • Multiple assaults, threats, cyberattacks, censorship, and killings of family members.

There was a link to a story on this post saying something like “The world would stop if a white journalist said these words to camera” or similar. Not sure where it went.

I’m just being pessimistic that anyone would care, white or not, since we’ve seen this savagery for a long while from the Israeli military and other nations and nobody “does” anything. Thanks for the source!

While I think it obvious that press should never be targeted, does that status have legal protections? I know hospitals and such are supposed to, but I’ve never looked into protections for press members

Is this “pleasant”? Just because his name was ghoul doesn’t mean it’s good karma like fallout 3 or smth. What am I missing?

Politics worth discussing are never ‘pleasant’ - but the political discussion about it can still be civil.

This community was never intended to be ‘feel-good news’ - the intention was to encourage lively political discussion while filtering out bad-faith actors.
