Chinese social media users have been discussing how Mr Walz spent a year teaching in the south-eastern province of Guangdong in 1989 - a topic that was trending on Weibo with 12 million views.

He and his wife, fellow teacher Gwen Whipple, later honeymooned in the country.

Mr Walz once described his decision to teach in China as “one of the best things I’ve ever done”.

I’m trying to get ahead of this, he was there during the Tienanmen Square massacre. They’re going to try and spin him as pro China government, but he loves the people and has empathy for them. Buckle up everyone, this is going to be a long 4 months.

This ridiculous narrarive is unlikely to convince anyone who wasn’t already going to vote for the orange gremlin anyway. In fact, I hope that the right wastes a lot of time attacking this angle. It’s less time they have to spend on some other, potentially more effective approach.

No, they have another one that they’re pushing that’s equally ridiculous. Walz went to Afghanistan and served for 24 years, but he “left” his unit to retire, lol. 24 years he served, which is 4 years over retirement age. That means he stayed 4 years longer than most.
