Anecdotal, but the battle pass is what finally killed Dota for me. Got badly burnt out and wrote off the game. It led to me avoiding battle passes in other games and, eventually, online gaming in general.
I was also a Diablo person, and due to the Blizzard shenanigans + microtransactions/battle passes I didn’t even bothered to watch the trailers.
It’s pretty neat to get older and realize you can do things at your own pace, spending years playing amazing games from your library and not falling for the “hype” (or should I say, marketing) of gaming.
Thank you for reading. Have an awesome day!
Hey I think you used your password as your username, it appears to me as ******
No, my password is AzureDiamond
Wait, doesn’t look like stars to me
Agreed.
But not only for older titles to avoid the hype. I can just as well buy a hyped up game, as long as it’s a story driven stand-alone game.
Right now I’m enjoying the hell out of Tears of the Kingdom. My pace, my way, when I have the time for it.
You have an awesome day, Good Sir.
It’s funny that dota was the first game to implement a battle pass, and now is going to remove it.
Pioneers till the end
How will they money? Apparently cosmetics and digital merch is what I skimmed.
I think they will continue selling merch, just not as battlepass. Let’s see what happens in September
From now on, the Battle Pass will not exist. However, this won’t eradicate the crowdfunding element for The International’s prize pool. Instead, Valve will release a TI-themed update in September. This update will apparently “focus on the event, the players, and the games, but cosmetic items won’t play a notable part.” This hints that this will instead be related to fantasy play and other supporting items, like the stickers from last year.
I would buy premium access to a dota rule 34 magazine where their characters take on increasingly weird roles, until it’s just some kind of lovecraftian novel of incomprehensible creatures with no discernible form, language or purpose. The last entry should just be a dead space and a very long tentacle shaped like a spike far away into the horizon.
I love how, on the internet, we can write whatever crazy fucking thought pops into our minds and post it for the whole world to see.
I’m being serious. Weird people: never ever change!
I like your energy, hombre
