Russia is seeking a crackdown on material that supposedly discourages having children. Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged couples to have children as the country’s birth rate drops.

A group of Russian lawmakers on Thursday approved legislation that would prohibit child-free “propaganda.”

“It is important to protect people, primarily the younger generation, from having the ideology of childlessness imposed on them on the internet, in the media, in movies, and in advertising,” Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, or Duma, said.

I wonder what will be counted as propaganda. Russian laws are usually loose about that sort of thing so they can have an excuse to silence whoever they want.

Propaganda is just information published with the intent to influence.

So to answer your question: posting.

Posting will (continue) to be considered an act of subversive propaganda, they’ve just added another banned topic to the existing list.

Of course this applies to any traditional medium as well, but I’m assuming this is mostly intended to curb social media posts and online discussions on the subject.

Pst Putin… maybe it’d help if people didn’t think you were going to send their husbands and children off to die in pointless wars.

If only he did something to pursue that in 24+ years he held the office… He only cares now because indebted newlyweds with kids are a target demographic for service. And it doesn’t work that well either.
