Japan and the U.S. will agree this week to jointly develop an interceptor missile to counter hypersonic warheads being developed by China, Russia and North Korea, Japan’s Yomiuri newspaper said on Sunday.

Its not Japan I am worried about. It is the fact we need hypersonic missile interceptors in the first place.

I see it as an implicit admission that everyone needs to start thinking about how to handle the likely eventual breakup of the Russian federation into warlord-controlled sub-states.

That is also another consideration. The question is what would be worse? The current situation or that one?

Each has its advantages and drawbacks, but it’s not an outcome that can be fully controlled by anyone.

That’s not really the point I am trying to make. Tensions are rising so much that we have started innovating for potential wartime again. It is the overarching problem that countries can’t get along and conflict is very much possible to break out. If it does break out, I can’t imagine it will end well for anyone involved. Ergo more things will start to be on fire. Just look at Ukraine and Russia.
