Use wireguard or any other open client, and use the credentials files generated with the provider. Same servers but an actually functioning, integrated and FOSS software.

The file has a specific server baked in though, right? No switching until you manually edit or create a new file?

Yes, but I tend to always use the same two or three servers and they get saved. So, switching afterwards is seamless and as straight forward as with the app. Easier, even.

This piece of garbage is even worse on Linux. I already regret switching from Mullvad. If Proton was to spent as much energy on their software as they spent on their dark patterns & advertisements, they’d may be a proper competitor.

Can you elaborate more on that? I’ve thought Proton is well respected company, given their promise of respecting privacy of their users.

I’ve used Proton on Android, IOS and Windows for the last 3 years or so and have been pretty happy with it overall. A few hiccups here and there but nothing that I didn’t have with my previous VPN provider. The worst experience I’ve had with Proton was when I was trying to run it on a Firestick which did eventually work.

Seems like they are more invested in their own garbage bitcoin wallet than improving their shitty software for Linux.

Privacy my ass. They are trying to get the cryptobros to spend money on their wallet.

Just curious, what were you trying to do? I recently got it and have been running it on two junky Ubuntu laptops with no issues

nothing particularly weird. it just happened at the start and it froze like this for a few minutes. after a restart and possibly an update it resolved on its own
