Most spears didnt have rounded spikes so you could still slash with them. Using the pole to whack people with was also common. They’re more like bladed staffs than anything else.

Yeah, but you’re talking about real spears, this is about videogame spears.

It’s not only spears, but the spears is very realistic in Just Dance. Only has the Britney kind, though.

Playing Morrowind with the “use optimal attack” switched off did offer variety even if thrust was by and far best

Arena and Daggerfall made you drag your mouse for each attack.

Which would be really cool and tactical if the enemy hitboxes had one iota of complexity.

    thrust, sure fine. It’s okay.

Ineffective bonk or thwack? embarassing. humiliating. Just plain silly.

Tossing the whole damn spear? Amazing. Doubly so when you land a headshot.

BUT WHEN YOU COUCH THAT LANCE

I actually go for spears or other polearms whenever possible, they are way cooler than swords to me.

Me too. Sadly, spears rarely get much love in RPGs. I’ve always wanted a) spears to qualify as finesse weapons and b) to make a dexterity build that dances about with a spear and takes advantage of distance. Just recently I started replaying neverwinter nights, with PRC (like every DND race/class combo) to experiment with builds.

Dude doesn’t even recognize the fact that you can still attack with a spear while your shield is raised in blocking position. 🤦‍♂️

I love Spectral Lance in Elden Ring. Turn any spear into a throwable weapon.

They are the sword of the peasant. Cheaper, easier to use and better in large formations.

Reminds me of lance in monster hunter world, it’s literally just thrust over and over again. I will never understand people that like it (yes, the charge is kinda cool)

I find the movement awkward, i tried it in mh4u and mhw and both time even with the movement tweak by the dev, it just didn’t feel right to me that i dodge backward where i facing.

The spear is the only other weapon that will damage the Mana Beast in Secret of Mana other than using the spells to awaken the Mana Sword.
