Something about Huberman rubs me the wrong way. I get the same “snake oil salesman” vibe from him I get off the rest of the alt-right toxic masculinity crowd.

Yes. One example is the blue light blocking glasses. When he first started out on the platform he mentioned a lot of times that such products don’t work. However, a few years later took a partnership with a company that sells those and suddenly they work and the brand he partnered with is amazing.

Not to mentioned the fact that he has several million followers, sponsorships and a high paying job while still saying that all the income he gets serves to fund the posdcast and to keep his knowledge free.

He may have started with good intentions but he’s long gone to the grift side of things.

Didn’t he get embroiled in some sort of scandal like three years ago because he was dating multiple women who all thought they were exclusive?

Can we just not talk about productivity for a second? I just want to live and breath. Not hustle and die.

Edit: I hate both ends of the spectrum. I would rather be focussed on the work rather than being worried about productivity.

Self improvement is masturbation. Now self destruction…

The left side is the lifestyles people sell to you in a futile effort to ‘beat the grind set’ required by “line goes up, forever” capitalism.

The right side is min-maxing your output to actualize your rewards in that system, at the cost of your lifespan.

The only winning move is not to play.

I am gonna be honest. Atomic Habits and the like helped me immensely recover my life outside the work. I don’t have lotsa energy, and I have no motivation whatsoever. It was always like that. But these shitass books, well, more excerpts from them actually helped me to get back some of my life. After that, I managed to start working on my mental health.

What I am going for is - don’t bash something only because it’s being sold. :( These are just tools.

I felt the Fight Club line was pretty clearly tongue i n cheek, but to be clear - I have nothing wrong with self improvement for yourself, with organic rationale.

The grindset lifestyle is super toxic though, and the wellness influencers are just yogis reskinned imo.

The left side also includes working out, having positivity posters, and a cup that says Rise And Grind.

The right could include a Doordash logo and a hot goth girl.

Left side is also people that haven’t achieved anything, but swear “I’m working on something big bro. I’m making moves.”

Right side is every sales organization with people pulling 200k a year while ignoring all of their actual lives and then dying off early.

It all just looks like hustler-flavored consumerism to me.

The folks washing down their adderall with huel and reviewing their ring stats on one screen while they’re checking their crypto speculations on the other is non-negligible.

I got gifted the Atomic habits book a few years back. Unfortunately one of the habits I don’t have yet is reading. Still haven’t started it.

I’ve interacted with people who practice and preach this philosophy. I still wonder why natural selection allows for their existence 🤦

Tangential, but Notion is an excellent tool for organizing a D&D campaign.

I have not ever used Notion for anything career or life productive, but boy is it ever my favorite D&D organizing tool
