Easily one of my most controversial picks to post here lol. Lamb of God is one of those new wave American death/groove/metalcore bands that felt pretty popular in the mid 00’s (coincidentally when I was growing up and found extreme metal music). Their music is VERY post-thrash and Groove-laden, but after all, what is groove metal but slowed down thrash?
This song will not be for everyone, the voice was still in the middle of being found, and the production absolutely favors the fuck out of the bass from every single instrument.
I’m totally with you. There’s connections and similarities between all of it, and not just in a music theory way. There’s intertwined roots between bluegrass and black metal. Might have to do some twisting and turning to get them linked, but it’s there.
There’s been historiography about music that’s made those connections, between something as far off as Chinese folk music and modern US country music.
It’s all about how humans have moved across the planet.
But even just the US originated genres like blues, bluegrass, rock and country have tangled roots with European folk music and orchestral. It’s a trip!
