What’s exactly toxic old man yaoi? Because whomever wrote this seems to be very well informed.
Gay sex isn’t woke. I don’t think y’all understand what woke is.
The only thing louder than the anti woke crowd is the scraping sound of their moving goal posts.
There are black people tho so it’s 1000% woke
As a Warframe sicko:
The only gay sex is implied between two people in a really beautiful and totally toxic as fuck relationship (… when you type it out… that is peak gay). That said, you play as a mechanically genderfluid character who, as of the 1999 update, actually has dialogue that more or less confirms that they also identify that way.
And the recently added romance system (Sadly only culminates in a New Year’s Kiss), like most modern games not written by chuds, just lets you get with whoever you wanna get with (look up Eleanor’s tongue…).
Rest is pretty spot on to the point that it is increasingly rare for a new story quest to not have a content warning or two ahead of it (and the story of how they got to Jade Shadows is almost as beautiful as the quest itself). ALthough I do take issue with “beat the main villain with the power of love”
spoiler
As of 2025, there are three meaningful contendors for “main villain”.
Ballas you beat with the power of timeline fuckery, a battleship, a giant stompy mech suit, a smaller mech suit, an eldritch horror (the player character), and your mother figure (who had been being tortured and manipulated by Balls for at least “countless centuries”) making a deal with the eldritch abomination who gave you your powers.
Said eldritch abomination who gave you your powers and is basically Chaos with less ultraviolence and more mind games.
And one of the people involved in that beautiful love story: Albrecht Entrati. Imagine if Gendo Ikari had been given time to be something other than a true monster so that you simultaneously want to cave his skull in and know that you need him to stand a chance at making it through this. Also if Gendo were gay as all fuck and had an adorable kitty cat who is probably also tired of his bullshit.
But yeah. Warframe is fucking good. And DE have handled the various Gamer attacks over the years really well. I’ll always be bothered by when Arena Net threw one of their writers and staff under the bus for not placating the “Have you considered having choice in your dialogue? I know you are a stupid woman but try harder” crowd. Whereas there was a similar push against DE to fire a few devs/community managers. To my knowledge, the only outcome was DE telling “Misan” that she should probably change her username which… fair play.
And when other studios and teams tiptoe around LGBTQ stuff? DE makes it front and center as a way to contrast the kind of monster who would experiment on animals and people and cause endless suffering with the kind of man who truly loves his partner and wants to protect him from… him.
Sold. Any tips for getting into the game? I’ve looked into it before and it’s seemed a bit daunting as a new player - although everyone I’ve seen taking about the game seems to be really friendly and welcoming to new people and it won’t really suck to suck at the game.
- Do what you can to avoid being spoiled. Warframe has some shockingly awesome narrative moments. It isn’t the end of the world if you do (and DE have mostly stopped trying to protect Spoiler Mode) but there is a reason so many of us consider certain quests to be all time great gaming moments.
- After any given mission you are going to get like 90 currencies. Ignore those until you care about building a specific Warframe. I would not suggest going out of your way to pick them up unless they are highlighted with a tag. And once you get a companion (and then add Vacuum/Fetch) you will just automatically hoover it all up.
- Mostly just do quests as they are available (I believe they tell you how to unlock them in the console in your orbiter?) and unlock the star chart (the map of mission nodes on the Navigation screen) by doing whatever you need to do for the junctions. Keep in mind a lot of the earlier quests kind of suck because they are 15 years old.
- Pay attention to the blueprints you get as drops from missions and bosses and quests and see if you have currency to build them or want to go out of your way to get some. But you should generally consider Rhino (unlocked by beating the boss on Venus a lot) as one of your first Warframes to actually grind for because… Rhino is REAL good and even a newbie build can generally complete the star chart with that chonky boy due to his mix of being nigh unkillable and having one of the best buffs in the game. Nezha is a twinky mother fucker but is also a great frame to get early and you only need access to a clan to get his blueprints. And he is similarly nigh unkillable (but in a more annoying way where you WILL die because you were paying too much attention to a podcast and forgot to tap 3) but has a more active playstyle in terms of his abilities.
- Modding is REAL complicated and even many 500 hour plus players don’t actually understand it. WarframeFlo has a pretty great primer (not to beconfused with a primer weapon…) intro to modding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLAXsUwS-wA but early on: Focus on survivability (health or shields) and ability strength for your Warframes and focus on multishot and total damage for your weapons, keeping in mind that you can make that number go WAY the hell up if you combine a base damage mod (Serration) with one or more element mods. That will get you to the end of the star chart and then you can decide if you are a Brozime (this is fun to play and should survive steel path) or KnightmareFrame (okay, so you wall latch here for 20 minutes and then your next shot will be a red crit that does fifty bajillion damage and this is how you use it to finish max level steel path survival against Grineer).
- Open World missions (Plains of Eidolon will be your first) kind of suck when you are just starting out due to having a lot of DPS gates and just being annoying to traverse without archwing or any vehicle that isn’t a k-drive. If you bring up the map you can fast travel to bus stops like it is Far Cry 2 but it is generally recommended to do what you need to to progress past that node (one bounty?) and then come back after The Second Dream (you’ll know what that is when you get it).
- Yes, Warframe is F2P. Yes, there are certain gameplay features designed to be money sinks. But it is one of the least predatory models out there (… after they got rid of loot boxes two or three years ago… and pay per spawn back during the closed beta).
- If at all possible, don’t sell any completed Warframes as the base versions have a very good use even after you unlock their Prime version. Weapons are up to you but it is generally good to have at least one of every given weapon type in your inventory. Yes, this will require a lot of slots.
- Like I said, there are still money sinks. But you can also get a lot of slots per year just by watching official streams on twitch and doing alerts and Nightwave. Alerts are fairly rare these days (there is one going right now for a nice mod and a good chunk of credits) but they tend to have really great rewards around the holidays, the anniversary of Warframe, and Tennocon. Nightwave is the battle pass but it is 100% free.
- If you are a part of any communities or discords online, mention Warframe in general chat. Odds are someone else plays and will be glad to help you out or even invite you into a clan.
- Have fun. Warframe is very specifically NOT the kind of live game that has super end game content. Account/Mastery progression is done by maxing out the rank of weapons and warframes so you are very regularly switching to a new frame or gun or hatchet or whatever. But also? That starter frame is just as capable of doing “endgame” content as some particularly unholy abomination like Mesa or Revenant. Yes, there is Steel Path and even some of the later missions that will push your poopy in if you don’t come equipped but it also isn’t a huge effort to become equipped.
You’re forgetting the whole thing between Gara and Unum.
As someone who is super into Guild Wars, what is this AN thing?
Not the best article but a good summary https://www.theverge.com/2018/7/12/17565218/arenanet-guild-wars-firing-games-social-media-harassment
Not too long after (I want to say a few months?) the chuds tried the same at DE and were basically told to go fuck themselves. Because DE, when they aren’t trying to be a publisher, are pretty awesome.
You can also play as a pregnant woman who was turned into a warframe. Few other ganes are as inclusinlve as warframe!
