“Nobody is above the law.”
Lol
He shouldn’t have been allowed to run until all outstanding criminal litigation was completed, and any punishment served/paid.
Disagree, because it would be abused.
An accusation would all that was needed to take out political opponents.
LOL. poor SNL…reality too funny.
sure hillary, bill and all the others dont deserve a punishment for being crooks. may monica go check the mailservers.
Somebody just needs to add a laugh track to American news, and be done.
LOL. poor SNL…reality too funny.
How does one even try to parody something like this?
Matt & Trey are gonna have a hard time with the new season as well. Almost anything they can come up with will be overshadowed by reality within the week.
can’t wait for the new LWT season. It’s going to be painfully awesome
No, you see he was sentenced to unconditional discharge. TOTALLY different.
Got some weed? Be prepared to be SWATted and thrown in jail for years.
Did you just rape, stole, gave top secret material to our enemies and pushed for a coup? Slap on your wrist and pinky winky promise me not to do that again
pinky winky promise me not to do that again
Best I can do is “no”.
Our justice system is a fucking sham.
Can people start protesting about two tier justice correctly now please?
I wish he would try selling loose cigarettes on a NYC street. I hear you don’t even get a trial for that, just straight to sentencing.
That’s a common misconception. Eric didn’t have any cigarettes on his person. Meaning the fake crime he was executed for wasn’t just minor. It was non existent.
He had been cited in the past for selling loosies. But there’s no info on whether they used an undercover or ci to offer to buy a cigarette. Using honeypot traps on pedestrians should be illegal.
Sounds about white
Sounds about orange*. I don’t think even your average white person is this well taken care of in the US court system
That’s rich

Should we have thrown the book at Hunter a bit?
OK now that I’m bringing out the Hunter Biden’s laptop folks, I’m deleting the comment and posts, not just acknowledging my error. Dear god what have I summoned.
Still trying to imitate a real human smile. Still just as bad it.
He just can’t get the hang of it.
Yet crybaby Trump it’s still whining and complaining.
We didn’t have enough cops no-knock raid his home.
I wonder what the fuck is in the water over there, since half the population is crazy!
Honestly? We are just stupid and believe America is the best country in every way, despite all the evidence to the contrary. That, coupled with a Fuck You attitude and racism leads us directly to JD Vance.
Cuts to education and removing critical thinking and prep resources from the upbringing of more and more civilians over decades will do that, yep.
Lead, lots of lead.
Yeah, but imagine if he had a bag of weed on him too.
Oh wait, he’s still rich and white, it wouldn’t have mattered!
I feel like the courts hands were tied here. How do you put a man who was just elected to be the next president in prison, or even on probation? Ultimately, the decision was made by the American voters.
That being said, even if Trump had lost this election, he still probably wouldn’t have done any time in prison, since he still would have been a former president, and that would have been a tricky enough situation.
What the fuck are you saying? Courts hands were tied?? USA is a constitutional democracy, not a mobocracy. Judiciary is to be independent. Blind justice weighing facts of the case and here president or not is irrelevant.
The judge thought it was relevant. You disagree, I get that, but I don’t know what to tell you. Send the judge a strongly worded letter, I guess.
The supreme court seems to have decided not to block the sentencing if there’s no incarceration. Seems like the judge took the best step forward as there will be an appeal anyway.
The judge still has tools other than incarceration. Since the crime was fraud, how about a hefty fine? How about community service? In what world would any other defendant have received a sentence of literally nothing at all?
I understand that you all want to believe that we live in a system where the rules are rigidly applied to everyone equally, regardless of circumstances, without exception, but that’s not the case.
Trump broke the law, that’s a conclusive fact, and he should suffer the appropriate legal consequences for that, but that became really complicated when he was ELECTED PRESIDENT… AGAIN! The president of the United States has a considerable amount of power and influence. It shouldn’t be that way, but it is. Ideally, the president of the United States wouldn’t have nearly as much power, ideally a president would be held to the same legal standards as everyone else, ideally the American people wouldn’t reelect a convicted felon, but clearly we don’t live in an ideal world.
Fair point…
How do you put a man who was just elected to be the next president in prison, or even on probation?
Exactly the same as every other person. Nobody should be above the law.
Well you start by arresting him and you end by keeping him in prison until the end of his sentence.
Seems pretty simple to me.
Never know until we try.
I don’t think we can, honestly.
Like I want Trump locked up, along with any politician who claimed the election was stolen.
But the fact is, the orange shit won 2024 and in 9 days (uuuugh) will
fully pardon himself making any punishment nullifiedbe the president again (thanks for the correction, he can’t pardon himself from state charges. If the various governments actually wanted to punish Trump (they don’t, unfortunately) they would have actually done something and took advantage of the FOUR FUCKING YEARS that there was a possibility of their cases making any impact at all.
Our broken justice system is slower than our corrupt political cycle, which lets those in power do whatever they want.
He cannot pardon himself from state charges.
He can fire anyone who says he can’t.
He cannot… His many things is this now that he just did anyways?
Yeah, but you can see why people who don’t want to see the US federal government potentially collapse into chaos wouldn’t want to try it, right?
The social contract is in pieces on the ground. If those in power no longer provide justice the people will create their own justice.
I think the political establishment is more concerned with maintaining stability than pursuing justice. They’re desperately trying to hold together a system that, as you point out, is falling apart. It may very well be a futile effort, but I understand why they’re doing it. Especially since our system was never really set up to prioritize justice in the first place.
I get that a lot of people are ready for the whole thing to just burn to the ground, and that might have always been inevitable, but if/when it does happen, it’s going to suck. A collapse of the United States wouldn’t be pleasant.
At this point, they’re attempting to hold together a system that’s hurtling headlong into fascist authoritarianism. Unpleasant it might be but at this point where we’re headed is likely far worse.
I can’t get into that mindset anymore. Let it burn.
I would. Even if it was “sentence is delayed 4years and 12 days.” Try to be fair and serve justice and let the bad guys be the ones to work on how to disrupt the rule of law further.
I would.
I know, but clearly not everyone would, and those are the people making the decision.
It would not collapse. If prison made being president impossible then we would just use his Vice President. Being the replacement is 90 percent of their job.
It would not collapse.
I don’t know how you can be so certain, but you could be right. It doesn’t make any difference, though, because that’s not what’s happening. Trump isn’t going to prison. If there’s something you think you can do to change that, go for it.
Oh I know what’s actually happening. I also know all of the justifications they’re using to defend this example of sheer corruption are themselves utterly morally bankrupt. You cannot have a democracy without accountability.
I don’t know why you think they give a rats ass about morality or democracy. I suppose because they say they value those things? I guess you’ve never heard of this thing people do called lying.
Yeah but if you don’t call it out then people will think this is normal.
