      Meanwhile:

The last director of the Russian space agency was recorded speaking at a neo-nazi gathering. And the guy who gave the Wagner group its name had a tattoo of the nazi eagle and the SS logo on each of his shoulders. I mean, if you wanna condemn an entire country for having a few nazis, the list of Russian nazis is a lot longer. We’ll be here for hours.

second-off Azov Brigade have confirmed neo-Nazis in their ranks

That goes for pretty much every single military in the world unfortunately. It’s not really worth singling them out when there are Russians running around with black sun symbols and SS-Skulls at the same time.

Besides, Ukraine has done a huge amount of work to clear up these elements and pretty much none of the founding members of Azov remain in active service. The entire brigade has been almost fully replaced after Mariupol.

The old issue with Azov had a lot to do with them receiving weapons and training from U.S. military prior to the full russian invasion in 2022. The backtracking and legitmization of the battalion in response is typically what people are most critical of. Seems silly how those optics used to be a concern.

You look at any nation’s army and you see a bunch of nationalist assholes there, no exceptions. Some of those are literally neo-nazis. Azov is has pretty high concentration of those, it was a non-government lead army comprised of uktra-nationalists and for sure was problematic as hell.

Ukraine took over Azov when the war escalated in 2022, and they’re using Azov as any other battalions in the defence of their country because they need men and these men are willing to give their lives to defend the country, and that’s what Ukraine needs right now - without it there would be no Ukraine anymore.

Of course it’s easy to yell at Nazi from the safety of your home thousands of kilometres from the country being invaded by an army lead by a shitbag in a bunker, but Ukraine needs every single one of these men to prevent being absorbed into another oblast in the Ruzzian empire. Sometimes bad people end up doing good things

That being said, every Nazi deserves to be fucked in the face with a brick

Not a good example. “Defending X” is a much stronger requirement than just “pointing out that a specific argument against X is invalid”; the latter is done by everyone who likes seeing good arguments rather than bad arguments, and isn’t a sign of liking X.

(The most pro-russian (as in, supporting the russian-ukraine war) stuff I’ve seen was various memes from lemmy.ml and lemmygrad that ended up in popular. I’m having trouble finding a better example than that; in particular, because Lemmy’s search is bad and doesn’t seem to allow for searching recent comments from a specific instance, and also refuses to give me more than a few pages of results.)

Which is better. Infinitely better. The fact it’s out in the open and no one with any power is doing anything to squelch it is why it’s growing so fast. There’s no way to assuredly eradicate fascists, but if they’re forced to be underground because their idealogies are not tolerated in public spaces, they won’t be nearly as able to spread like a plague to every troglodyte stealing oxygen.

They are the same. Nazis were killing people here in the US back then too, it was just covered up because it was embarrassing for the local politicians. Sure, it was more comfortable for white people to pretend there was nothing wrong, but that didn’t mean people of color weren’t dying.

What you’re saying is you just want to go back to being comfortable. That’s your privilege, you used to be able to pretend it wasn’t happening. Some of us never had that option.

NATO is a defensive alliance. It poses no threat to anyone unless they attack a NATO country. It’s like a porcupine, just leave it alone and everyone is happy.

Russia could probably join as WL well if they wanted. Ideally, all countries join, which would probably eliminate war entirely.

From what i’ve seen yes. We shouldn’t forget Libya but it seems to have a clean track record? I’m not sure why some would have negative views about NATO as an idea but some of their actions can be criticized.

Ideally, all countries join, which would probably eliminate war entirely.

Probably not. Most countries wouldn’t waste resources on protecting tiny countries or its opponents. Even just sending reparations some countries fail at. (See the US and iraq :( )

You know you’re at the right place when you start seeing stuff like “occupied korea”.

I’ve seen plenty of people not only defending Russias invasion but justifying it as the right thing to do with claims that they are “de-nazifying” Ukraine.

With all due respect it’s a .ml account that is 1 year and 4 months old as of writting.

Judging by their post history they spend most of their time in political and news on .world now from time to time you will 100% see someone defending Russia there.

just the instance they are on is riddled with tankies it would be highly unlikely.

The comment was made in bad faith or they have a serious case of selective vision. I would bet on the former.

This makes the chance that they havent seen any comment or post supporting Russia a lot less likely

But wouldnt it be easier to link to someone defending Russia and then judging by their reply than searching trough their post history?
