“Thanks to each wave of new arrivals to this land of opportunity, we’re a nation forever young, forever bursting with energy and new ideas, and always on the cutting edge, always leading the world to the next frontier. This quality is vital to our future as a nation. If we ever closed the door to new Americans, our leadership in the world would soon be lost.”
-fucking Ronald Reagan.
I mean… It’s good for the fucking economy and national security. The whole, growing economy thing… I’ve never played a 4x game and thought… better stop producing food and encouraging population growth before I have too much production capabilities and the resources to trade for diplomatic power. (This isn’t reddit but mandatory disclaimer hoi4 and Stellaris antixenos are a vocal minority 😬😅)
First they came for the immigrants
And I did not speak out
Because I was not an immigrant
Then they came for the trans people
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trans person
Then they came for the trades unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trades unionist
Then they came for the non-Christians
And I did not speak out
Because I was a Christian on paper
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
#DOES THIS SURPRISE ANYONE?!
It was never about ‘criminals.’ It was about creating an ‘other’ underclass that can’t fight back, and persecuting them to draw attention and focus away from the real problems.
I think there’s quite a few brown people in America surprised by this. I’m not sure how that’s possible but it is the reality of the level of political engagement we’re dealing with in this country.
draw attention and focus away from the real problems
…and the additional ones intentionally created just so a few morons can get even more power.
“I’ve always said, we might be from the same country, but we are 100 percent in agreement that if someone harms someone that person should leave,” Marian said in Spanish. “But I never made that comment thinking it could happen to me and my family.”
So frustrating
“So…many…faces…” urp
(the fact that he’s a cop makes it even better)
Haha is that a character from something?
Zootopia, and he’s actually a nice guy despite being a cop. That’s how you know he’s fictional even more than him being an anthropomorphic leopard.
Zootopia. No idea how I know that.
Legal or illegal migrants. That’s the only distinction that matters. Illegal? Bye!
It doesn’t fucking matter. Illegal or legal, they do not deserve to be sent to Gitmo. Nobody deserves to be sent there.
Or are you somehow arguing that concentration camps are fine, for some people. Then let’s hope you don’t belong to a group that becomes the other in the future.
And apparently they also arrest legal immigrants now. So eh… well done, I guess.
My concern ends at the illegal entry part, past that whatever happens is the consequences of their actions.
I wish you a very happy finding out
Carlos was in the US legally. He followed the rules, entering the US under a government asylum program.
“He came to the U.S. from Venezuela in November through CBP One, a mobile app created by the federal government used by asylum seekers to schedule an appointment in the U.S.-Mexico border. Migrants who secured an appointment were allowed in the country temporarily while they await their immigration hearing.”
Shit happens during major change, the important part is that change is happening in a positive direction.
My concern ends at the illegal entry part, past that whatever happens is the consequences of their actions.
gets informed person was here legally
Shit happens
Uh huh. So the comment you made only minutes prior about your concern ending at the illegal entry part was a lie. It looks like your concern ends when it’s affecting non-white people.
You know they’re being put in Gitmo, right? The place where the worst of the worst terrorists are supposed to go? You’re okay with that? That’s the level of crime you think they’ve committed?
I’m “glad” to see Kaboom has some competition for once.
Whatever that means… bye!
They never said they wouldn’t come for migrants without criminal records; they only said that they’d target them first. So if they come across other migrants in their targeted search for those with criminal records, they still consider those to be valid arrests.
edit: to address the comments: I said that they think of then as valid arrests, not that I did.
I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt since you said they consider them to be valid arrests, not that you do. The crime is, of course, not being white.
How does having immigrated here make the arrest valid if they didn’t even commit a crime? Also why do you seem to believe them when they call it a targeted search when there have been constant reports like this one of random people getting picked up, some not even immigrants?
They said targetted first, but not exclusively. I don’t like whats going on. But it is being portrayed as a surprise. No one should be surprised by this. If anything it hasn’t been as bad as predicted… yet. Overall, thier goal is actually fear. They hope that will deter others from coming in so they can declare what a good job they did securing the borders. And the idea of scared immigrants makes thier base happy. So it’s win win for them.
This person was here legally.
Sadly no. Since the dems took the easy route and used executive orders instead of actual laws passed by congress, trump can just cancel that order. And bam, he is now illegal. Worse, because he tried to go the legal route, they knew exactly where to find him.
Yes, everyone is aware that they can change laws on a whim in a fascist dictatorship to suit their agenda. That is not what people are discussing.
They consider just being here illegal, thus committing a crime.
“Valid arrests.”
Wow.
They ARE valid arrests lol
This person was in the country legally.
Are these also valid arrests?
How about these?

Should those Native Americans be deported back where they came from?
How?
Basic law 101 here. An important part of your development you should not overlook
