Typical German blunder: Some of those drones were flying over an air defense training centre of all things. I guess having the armed forces “optimised” and “reformed” by McKinsey consultants back in the day when von der Leyen was minister of defense finally pays off.
How in the world is is not standard, at this point, to have a little sensor network that pops up an icon on a screen to show any drone above the size of a housefly that’s within a few miles of your sensitive installation.
I have to assume, simply from the fact that no one’s kamikazed a dildo drone into Elon Musk while he’s making a speech or something, that the US has something like this and just isn’t talking about it. Compared to some of the insane stuff that gets done in military/intelligence work it would be super easy, and absolutely crucial.
i do’t know what sensors that might be, but i’d guess that birds and bumblebees (bigger than a housefly) could pop up a lot of icons on your screen.

I have no idea how well this stuff works. For all I know, the article is written because they saw it on this system, and decided it wasn’t worth trying to keep it a secret. But IDK how you got to the idea that drone detection systems are so obviously nuts, that only a stupid person might think they’re realistic.
