I recently beat the first boss and am having a good time so far. I find the dodge a bit clunky, but it seems like the game is trying to push you more towards blocking (and perfect blocking).

Overall, I love the fact that a demo for this game exists and that it feels quite polished!

I beat the demo yesterday and overall had a pretty good time. I think they need to make the dodge happen a bit faster after input, right now I feel like there’s a bit of lag. Blocking and parrying is good once you know an enemies timing.

For the story, I’m not sure if I like how hands on it is compared to Fromsoft games. Generally I prefer games with more clear stories but it’s also harder to ignore a bad story in that format. Also while the areas in game can be pretty I don’t see a lot of backtracking happening from one area to another one. Each one feels pretty closed off which makes it harder for Krat to feel like an actual city. Might be unfair to judge that just based off the demo though.

Not sure if I’ll buy it at full price or if I’ll get it at a discount in the future. I’ll probably wait for reviews and base it off that. The demo did a good job getting the game on my watch list though since I’d never heard of it before the SGS trailer.

Your second point is interesting! I agree there wasn’t much encouraging back-tracking, especially since there are pretty generous fast travel points. Because the design is quite good, in my opinion, hopefully they’ll do more to emphasize that aspect of the game later on.

I’m excited to give this game a try. Finishing up my first play through of Dark Souls 3 and then will probably download this to see how it is. Glad you are enjoying it.

It seems like a high quality game, but personally I’m a little disappointed that it’s so similar to FromSoft games. Other souls-like games like Nioh and Mortal Shell at least felt different enough to be distinct, but Lies of P really feels like a (admittedly high quality) Bloodborne rip off IMO. At least that’s how it seemed from what I played in the demo.

Well in any case, doesn’t look like there’s hope of a Bloodborne remaster or port to PC, so for now we can play Lies of P ;)

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but it feels like a FromSoft game. Granted, I’d rather they have put their own spin on it. But at the same time, they’re trying to get buy-in from the audience of Souls games that they can put together a good Souls game, imo.

It feels like, “I want Bloodborne,” “We have Bloodborne at home, honey.”

I can’t speak too much on similarities with Bloodborne as I haven’t played it, but FightingCowboy on YouTube who’s big into soulsborne games mentioned it feels different. Specifically, I think he mentioned the flow of combat is different, partially due to the blocking focus on this game. Lastly I think the art and world alone is a reason to try it out. The “steampunk” style gives it a unique feel.

The blocking/perfect blocking, can you compare that to Sekiro? I really enjoyed that, once I got into it.

Unfortunately I haven’t played Sekiro (that and Bloodborne are the two FromSoftware games I haven’t had checked out yet). The timing on the perfect block is strict, but it feels repeatable once you figure out the timing for a specific boss.

I haven’t played Bloodborne either - I’m PC only… Sekiro is worth it!

The perfect block sounds good! I look forward to trying the demo!

I’m definitely planning on playing it soon! (I’m currently side-tracked playing Dead Space after loving the demo).

@humanplayer2 @WooChooTrain I beat the demo yesterday and it seems like a combo of Bloodborne and Sekiro mechanics, especially the perfect block. I did think dodge was really useless for the most part with boss fights but it seems like you can upgrade it once you unlock the p-organ chair
