Sometimes I wish I could make myself believe in the “fun” conspiracy theories.

But dig deeply enough and there’s usually some brand of right libertarianism or antisemitism at the bottom of it. 🙄

I like the faking it one.

Got to admire the will power of an infant to totally come up and commit to the bit.

So I’m glad you said something about her committing to a bit since infancy, because I was really confused why anyone would know if she was faking the other thing I thought it meant

I mean “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow,”

      How would she know otherwise???

I once caught a cab in Belfast. The driver was adamant that the Titanic disaster had been faked, with the ship swapped with a sister ship which wasn’t up to scratch or something. Apparently that conspiracy theory is not uncommon there.

I hear this from time to time, despite it being easy to disprove. Titanic and Olympic had several noticeable differences between them, as documented during the construction, and can be seen on the wreckage today. I don’t remember them all, but one of the easy to spot differences is how the bridge wings are shaped.

I thought that was part of the conspiracy, the wreckage had the differences

Edit: awwwww I always liked that one, it was way too easy for them to debunk with part registrations

I’m a fan of “Titanic never sank” because it was about 100 years ago, we’re only a few generations removed from it, so we have good records on the whole thing. At least the others are things you’ll (probably) never see yourself.

Especially because we have pictures and videos of the ship on the ocean floor. And (some) people have visited it and can tell us about it firsthand.

Moon landing is even more recent. Didn’t like Buzz Aldrin or one of them deck a guy one time for insulting him and getting up in his face about faking it all?

I think that conspiracy claims that the ship that sank wasn’t the Titanic but a sister ship made together with it. They point to pictures of the ship at the bottom of the sea and say the size of some windows or whatever match the shape from the sister ship, not the Titanic. The conspiracy says it’s insurance fraud.

How does insurance fraud work in this situation? Like if I had two cars, identical model but a year or two apart. I sink one in the river, but I claim it was the slightly newer one that crashed. Seems like it would be easy to prove that I’m still driving around the other car.

Pretty much yeah, that’s why it’s a conspiracy theory, it’s dumb and it relies on everyone else closing their eyes. It would be too easy to prove true, but now that both ships are gone, you can’t prove it wrong.
