Following a complaint filed two years ago by a national pay-TV broadcaster, police in Germany say they now have three main suspects in custody following a huge law enforcement operation. Over 150 officers carried out searches against 18 suspects in 17 locations, with the aim of shutting down an as-yet unnamed illegal streaming operation with an estimated 30,000 subscribers. The three men, aged between 36 and 59, face charges including suspected commercial computer fraud, which carries a potential sentence of 10 years imprisonment.

I’d love to download all the shit that’s been pulled off Netflix since I’ve been a customer.

    They pulled their content,
thus they don’t want my money,
thus there should be 0 qualms in me re-acquiring their content.

Anytime I see “millions” or “billions” claimed in losses, I assume it’s less than that and consider it whining.

I love how they always assume pirates would be buying this shitty content at $3/episode in the absence of piracy. They’d be playing videogames or listening to music or podcasts if this crap wasn’t free.

Drug busts are always valued at inflated prices too…

Just classic bad faith behavior by the state to justify oppression of the working people

I think cops are just getting fucked over by dealers so they don’t know the real prices

Lol, well I’m guessing they’re just taking the weight, dividing it by grams (or whatever amount its usually sold to individuals in), and multiplying that by it’s “dose value”. So, for easy math, if 1g of coke goes for $100, and cops bust someone with a kilo (1000g), it becomes a million dollar bust when nobody would ever actually pay that much.

My thoughts exactly. All this time, money and manpower spent to prevent some people from watching movies.

Good job assholes, you saved the fuckin day 🙄

I’m all for piracy but the moment you start charging for the content you’re part of the problem and colossally stupid.

Edit: reading it again and it’s actually unclear how exactly the “service” works. I don’t know why I initially thought it definitely involved payment
