Lol. Use Libredirect extension to redirect all YouTube URLs in your browser to an invidious instance, don’t even worry if video doesn’t load, copy url, yt-dlp said url, make sure to add sponsor block flags to yt-dlp command. Don’t even need ublock. mpv your ad free sponsor less video, hold onto it forever if you want.

Keep making GrapheneOS compatible phones Google.

Does it mark the sponsors for skipping, or completely not download the sponsor sections? Once in a while I’ll actually watch those ad spots from a few creators

It’s crowdsourced. Viewers tag sections as sponsor segments and the extension skips those sections.

Yeah I know what it is, and how it works online, but when it’s used with YouTube-dlp does it actually download the whole video and mark the skips, or does it skip downloading those parts entirely?

Getting the channel ID can be annoying. This website https://www.rsslookup.com/ finds the RSS link for any youtube channel and many other sites for you.

RSS is my religion, my saviour, my love. With a nice RSS reader you can create categories, filter by keywords, add tags for archiving, etc

I have feeds for youtube, blogs, github release changelogs, protest announcements, news, …

Was anyone able to even read the article? Never heard of this site, the article barely loads (Ublock blocks 39 elements and Privacy Badger blocks 10), and the blurb above seems awfully corporate. Something seems funny with this post, either crap AI or someones 2 minute blog post fluffed up.

Have you ever considered the possibility that installing an ad blocker while watching YouTube videos could lead to your Google account being suspended? While such a measure has yet to be enforced, Google appears to be subtly signaling that account bans may be a potential course of action.

Since the beginning of 2024, Google has been actively cracking down on users who employ ad blockers to bypass YouTube advertisements. When the platform detects ad-blocking activity, it prompts users with a notification urging them to either subscribe to YouTube Premium or disable their ad blocker.

Now, Google is intensifying its efforts against ad-blocking tools. According to screenshots shared by Reddit users, the warning message has been updated with a more severe tone:

As per YouTube’s Terms of Service, accounts that repeatedly or egregiously violate the platform’s policies may be temporarily or permanently suspended. While the notification does not explicitly state that using an ad blocker will result in an account ban, the warning that such activity constitutes a violation of the terms suggests that suspensions could be a plausible consequence.

It is undeniable that Google’s new warning carries an undertone of intimidation. However, at least for now, no reports have surfaced of users being banned solely for using ad blockers. It remains possible that Google’s intent is merely to deter users rather than implement outright account suspensions.

Should Google ultimately decide to enforce bans on accounts using ad blockers, it could lead to a significant number of suspensions, potentially causing a decline in YouTube’s traffic and user base. On the other hand, a temporary suspension policy might serve as a sufficient deterrent, prompting many users to reconsider their reliance on ad-blocking tools.

Good reminder to de google yourself.

Losing your YouTube account also means your gmail.

How many things do you have that use your gmail for authentication? Many services do not let you migrate off your signup email.

Start today: buy your own domain name and sign up to an email provider with it. It does not take long to set up, but make sure you have auto renewal enabled to protect yourself.

What takes a long time is notifying everyone you want to continue being able to communicate with of your new email address.

That and services that don’t let you change your email to migrate to a new one.

This is a big one. I have a lot of Google photos usage, and while I’ve tried OneDrive and PrintDrive, and while both are decent they don’t really match up and I’ve been hesitant to self host immach or something because to ke the point of a cloud photo storage was to be part of my 321 backup strategy.

Getting bounced from photos for youtube usage would really be a tough pill, but it would definitely hasten my exit.
